Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-29/35 Fulcrum - History, Design, Performance & Dissection (Part 2)

Guys did ur MiG-35 get into Bullet Hell recently. I’ve not been into it for a week, and my latest one was just a disaster. Everyone was flying MiG-35 bc it’s too op.

Another reason Ig is that people dont wanna fly it in air RB so they just rush to NE and Bullet Hell modes. The Chinese new toptier jet and SU-30 really just rule the sky of air RB.

With R27R/ER does war thunder recognize the fact that re-locking onto a different target or dropping lock entirely cause the missile to go dumb? And the re-locking feature is only for gameplay purposes?

I wonder how MiG-35 compares to F-2 in a dogfight.

Mauls it.

Really? I’ve beaten even Gripens and stuff in the F-2.

I mean, the F-2 is considered better than the Gripen by most duelists.

But MiG-35 blows the F-2 out of the water.

The MiG-35 is like a normal distribution for duelists.

Low end is “I’m in a MiG! I can out turn anything!”.

Middle is “I’m in a MiG-29! I can’t dogfight anything!”.

High end is “I’m in a MiG-35! I can out turn anything!”.

Most of the time you’ll be running into the first two.

It beats almost everything. The only real challenge is the Eurofighter, and even then, unless the euro pilot is good, you can still beat it

Euro wins by a very small margin iirc.

For most pilots, the MiG-35 will be better in a dogfight.

Yep

i was stuck in a ratefight against F-2 in a MiG-29K. Poor guy broke down and reversed right in front of me after like a whole ass 2 minutes of this dance
MiG-29K is just a tool of psychological warfare

I’m having a hard time enjoying the MiG-35 because the R-77-1 is broken. The plane itself is great, the missile isn’t. It keeps on easily losing track and then proceeds to wobble aggressively, even when the shot is at 15 km. It only works in WVR when the shot is close enough to see the motor still burning towards the target. I can’t sling it in BVR at all.

They set a too aggressive pid parameter for r
77-1, and loosen its finsAoA so much. The missile just turn to a place where it gets easily notched. They should have tuned all those parameters more carefully instead of hurrying them into the game.

My first cinematic, It’s not the best, but I put a lot of effort into it

Anyone spots Balta’s new issue on fuel dumping?
https://community.gaijin.net/issues/p/warthunder/i/jTKbFkhFT1cd
If fixed it would be nice in land RB, like you encounter a Eurofighter just after you take off with 30 min fuel and full load. Obviously you need to dump extra fuel and a2g load to win the dogfight against an opponent like Eurofighter.

Guys Ig I get some clue about the drag on 9.41 family. Here are two issues about MiG-35 and MiG29k VNE.

https://community.gaijin.net/issues/p/warthunder/i/HA5eBaA6JChH
https://community.gaijin.net/issues/p/warthunder/i/lizEg8A9oUJz

If you read carefully, you can see that they accepts 29k’s top speed or say VNE at 1470 km/h (unlike other Fulcrums which have VNE of 1575 km/h) where the plane stops accelerating. Things on MiG-35, it becomes different. Tho the VNE (2205 km/h) on this is for different altitude, the issue also claims that 35 should reach to its top speed(2205 km/h) and stop accelerating. However, they nab the issue and states that MiG-35 can exceed its VNE limit since the thrust is available for that.

You know, gaijin doesn’t really get a chance to really run simulation and know the drags. They just fit the drags to their available datapoints. So to let 29k stop accelerating at their VNE, they must have given a higher fuselage drag co to 9.41 family, whose fuselage drag co should ve been close to 29m 9.15.

But since they offer a totally different explanation for 35, I am wondering, is it like MiG-29k is also capable of accelerating beyond its VNE? The 1470 km/h is actually TAS limit. And so the fuselage drag of 9.41 family may get a chance to be corrected.

Sry I also posted it under MiG-35 high altitude performance thread but no one is keeping on that anymore.
