I did some testing to try and found which Fulcrums are fastest from Mach 1 to 1.2 in a slight climb (10*)
I tried to make it as fair as possible. I did it all in a Test Flight with 13 minutes of fuel on Full AB (Except 29K, where I used 109%) and no external stores (Except on 29M, where I brought and discarded a droptank immediately since I don’t have the plane yet) and immediately put the plane into a 10* climb. Clipping the flight as soon as I hit mach 1.2 and counting the # of seconds between hitting Mach 1 and Mach 1.2.
And I found that it takes:
34 seconds for the MiG-29K to go from Mach 1 to 1.2
30 seconds for the MiG-35 to go ftom Mach 1 to 1.2
29 seconds for the MiG-29SMT to go from Mach 1 to 1.2
25 seconds for the MiG-29 9.13 to go from Mach 1 to 1.2
23 seconds for the MiG-29 9.12A to go from Mach 1 to 1.2
18 seconds for the MiG-29M to go from Mach 1 to 1.2
I’ve clipped all the tests, they’re all about 1 minute of climbing. The files maybe too big to share on the Forums but I can put them all in a .zip and send them to whoever is interested.
This is probably slightly flawed. Since some engines are better at altitude than others, and I had some issues getting to a perfect 10* climb on some planes. But even so. It’s interesting.
I forgot to account for the fact that RD-33, RD-33K, and RD-33MK might have different fuel efficenty, and 13min maybe different across the engines (this would affect the weight from the fuel).
However, for the 9.41s, 13 minutes is min fuel. For all the others I had to bring Extra to get 13 minutes.
So even when the 9.41s have the lowest fuel % they still accelerate the slowest.
You can try to balance fuel load to bring them all to similar TWR and put infinite fuel on. This might help eliminate weight variables to see the drag difference more clearly
@Balta779517-live Any idea what the RP-35 is? Looking it up it was a supposed PESA for the MiG-35, but the source on Wikipedia (the only place where it’s mentioned) leads to a dead site.
I was gonna re-name Zhuk-A into Cyrillic in a lang mod, and the one I’m using as a basis (INF1) has Zhuk-A denoted as RP-35. (the Cyrillic mod hasn’t been updated yet.)
Then again, it’s calling of N011M “N011M Bars-29” for some reason. So I doubt it’s accurate.
It’s most likely related to the drag of 9.41. They must have nerfed 9.41 when they were fixing its overperforming VNE by adding more drag to 9.41 family.
U know it’s not even better than smt. I felt so clearly when I flew nuke carrier in nuclear thunder. It easily reached its maximum speed and gonna torn itself apart. But MiG-35, that’s a different story.
Looking at MiG-23 documentation, similar designation is used for Sapphire-23 as well. From MiG-23 docs it is deciphered as a “radar scope (scope as in a thing that you use to aim)”. Zhuk-A is radars own name, but as a part of MiG-35 avionics suite it is probably called RP-35.
