Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-25 & MiG-31 Foxbat / Foxhound - History, Design, Performance & Dissection

Understanding that aircrafts are created 90% of the time to fulfill specifc role and not to be “an equivalent of X” is apparently beyond some people.

Interesting

The English manual that’s fully available was the flight operations manual for the plane’s pilots. It was to teach them how to best fly the plane safely, rather than describing its actual capabilities. It can be disastrous to model a plane after its flight operations manual because those manuals can be very conservative. The Javelin was capable of 1,130 km/h IAS at sea level or so in real life, but there was one fatal crash of a prototype in real life whose reason was completely unrelated to high speed flying that provoked them to impose an IAS safety restriction on all production planes, even after everything was ironed out in the production models. This is why the Javelin we have in the game isn’t properly modeled. When they first added it in patch 1.81 in Dec 2018, Gaijin met severe backlash.

They did produce a technical manual on the MiG-25 but I don’t think it’s fully available. I used to have copies of several pages before I cleaned up my old PC.

I found another manual for MiG-25P:

It doesnt have very good resolution but its readable.

Yes, that’s a pilots manual and that’s why I mentioned that planes are designed to withstand 50% more Gs than what pilots are allowed to pull. 50%, not more, not less

That’s a steep generalisation. MiG-25 was quite unique in its design and materials used for it. Airframe withstood 11.5Gs in a dive and pilot could land it afterwards, even if it was decomissioned due to bending and warping of the airframe. Add to that the fact that airframe testing in USSR at that time didn’t include tests for airframe destruction, so it was never pushed to its very limits.

Just got my first ace as well.

Last guy was airfield camping, and none of my teammates would come help so I ended up getting shot down by an Ito 90M.

The Russian cycle continues.

  • New vehicle announced
  • “This is gonna break the game!!!”
  • It’s mid
  • repeat

only recent exceptions have been the BMPT, and the SM2.

I managed to get 3 aces while spading it, it was really fun to play, the other 2 screenshots are on my newer PC back home though.

And BMPT is being moved up in br several times already. SM2 also wouldn’t be as good as it is right now if other Fox-3s were as good as R-77-1, which isn’t even a missile unique to SM2. I hope gaijin will adress this armament problem at top tier eventually

People were freaking out about how it’s gonna COMPLETELY RUIN air RB.

And it’s just… fine.
