Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-25 & MiG-31 Foxbat / Foxhound - History, Design, Performance & Dissection

I’m pretty new to WT, so as an aerospace engineer with a Master degree in flight dynamics and ex-aerodynamicist (this is what I loved the most in my career), I have studied aerodynamics for almost 2 decades with scientific results and studies. I have a good friend who is on par with me on this matter and he shared with me as friends a lot of MIG-21, MIG-23 and also MIG-25 performances data from Russian written manuals, one of which I see above here in this thread (if it’s a thread, I just found this by searching MIG-25 specifically in search). I can ask him if he has these sea level operational limit speed (which is not the structural failure limit which of course is always some higher) values somewhere so we can all see it and maybe the devs will just do a quick tweak in the numbers and have the planes in the sim respect those also. I just hope.

Now, because I’m also new to this forum type which is pretty different from like DCS (which I mostly play), can you give me a hint on which section to go for talking about these rather low top speed IAS structural break limit? Thank you very much!

the Mig-25 in war thunder is largely modeled after the operational speed limits described in this manual

with the only difference in its max speed being at 20km alt where it can go mach 3+ as the Mig-25 was recorded of being able to do so and being famous for going Mach 3

there is always the offical bug reporting site Community Bug Reporting System.

you could also try and contact gaijin staff here on the forum :)

There’s still no actual proof it’s gotten countermeasures but yes some 31BMs and Is have gotten L-150 over the past few years.

(Ik it’s an old post hush)

yeah also a pic of a BM with a new L-150 display in place of the old SPO-15 panel

Yeah that one’s been floating around for a while now, maybe in a few years we’ll get a full shot of the pilot and WSO seats.

So I suppose the MiG-31 in game could have somewhat similar or identical gameplay to the F-14, which is climb spam and grab 2 or 3 kills.

Two questions:

    1. Does it carry R-37’s under its wings or only limited to 4 underbelly ones?
    1. Is the regular R-37 (not the M) an ARH missile or is it exclusively SARH?

first of all

what Mig-31 variant are you talking about

becasue the early ones dont even get the R-37

Mainly about the MiG-31M and BM.

Even though I’m not sure the M was actually an in-service variant (at least from what I heard).

Secondly if the BM ever carried the non M variant of the R-37.

In case of the MiG-31M, from pictures I can see in this thread, it can carry 6 on the belly(?)

M is the only variant that carried R-37. BM only carries R-33 or R-37M. There was a proposal upgrade of BM where it could carry 2 R-37Ms on its inner wing pylon, but it seems that VKS didn’t pick this one, only giving it R-73 and R-77-1 as a wing option

only few prototypes were built and program was canned cuz no moni

I see I see, so unless gaijin decides to add the M variant of the MiG, we should pretty much expect a very high br one (R-37M carrier) and possibly an early one with R-33’s & R-40’s.

MiG-31M could be an interesting middle-way variant, like one that doesn’t see rafales, su-30’s and Eurofighters every match but still has ARH.

i would love to collect all USSR “M” projects, and the fact that we did get MiG-29M gives me a bit of hope that Su-27M and MiG-31M might eventually appear in one way or the other

I can see it being 14.0 with most modern weapons, no r37m.

I would love a Su-27M with the 117 test engines

i would be happy about a 27M with the mechanical Bars

Anything but N001 bro

the mech Bars gets similar azimuth limits as the Zhuk

So ±85*? That could be fun.

nah, i’ll be fine with its intended configuration. 13.7 Flanker with either very good mechanical radar or very good PESA radar at the cost of no R-77-1 is more than good for me. Even if Su-27SM is superior in terms of flight model
