Why Gaijin should add the MiG-31:
- Historical Importance:
The MiG-31 is a crucial part of Cold War and modern Russian aerospace defense history. It was the first operational aircraft with a Zaslon phased-array radar and could engage multiple targets at long range. It represents a huge leap in interceptor technology. - Unique Gameplay Potential:
Unlike fighters or multi-role jets, the MiG-31 is a dedicated long-range interceptor with powerful radar and long-range missiles (like R-33 or even R-37 in later versions). It wouldn’t be overpowered in close dogfights but would provide a new, strategic role in Air RB or Simulator – something no other aircraft currently offers. - Fits the Current Meta & Timeline:
With 4th-gen jets and long-range missile combat being added (e.g., F-15C, Su-27, AIM-120, R-27ER), the MiG-31 fits perfectly into the growing high-tier meta. It’s also a logical counterpart to fast interceptors like the F-14B and upcoming more modern threats. - Visual and Performance Appeal:
The MiG-31 is a visually striking, twin-engine beast capable of Mach 2.83, with powerful afterburners and long-range engagement capability. Players are always excited about big, fast, and unique aircraft – and MiG-31 is all three.
