MIG-25, anyone want to advise me?

sooooooooooo basically i grinded the mig-25 and jumped in br and dont know wtf im doing :) i have like 3,000 or 6,000 hours or something stupid but the highest br fighter i played before that was the la-200

ive studied everything about radar and missiles and i think i know how to use everything, but i dont know what to actually do, the way you play is so different to ww2 planes

at first i thought to climb really high and go really fast, because u know, its the mig-25, plus a review i saw recommended it - climb high, and launch missiles at planes below you, and use its engines to get away and get high again. well anyway i just got slapped at long range, especially by other mig-25s, and i couldnt really do anything because my radar wouldnt pick anything up and if it did, it would be closing in on heatseeker missile range, and it would still struggle to actually lock on to use the radar missiles. plus there was no way to attack anyone below because of the ground clutter messing up the radar. it seemed like other players radar worked way better than mine (yes i adjusted the scope scale setting)

so then i tried hugging the ground, with the thought that that way, i could always look up at the sky with no ground in the view of my radar and it might be more effective, and i kinda had more success that way but only with distracted enemies, and i realised that the whole point of the mig-25 is that its fast and high-flying, and if i were to hug the ground like that i may as well fly any other jet

what i do?

step 1. wait a few weeks for less people to be playing it
step 2. play it
step 3. probably have fun idk

the best counter to a mig25 is another mig25, but yes climbing is what you want to do, as its kinda all it can do

id rather work out what the other mig-25 players are doing better than me than to just wait to play it
i get lock-on warnings from the rwr before i can even detect anything with the scanner

I can explain how I have been using it.

For load out, I run 2xR60M, 2xR40TD, and 1xR40RD. I also run about 24min of fuel.

At the start, I go full afterburner and side climb up to at least 6km before leveling a bit, going to 104% throttle, and turning a bit in.

If there is anyone up there, I go for a R40RD attack from at least 10km out. If they are closer and closing in, I try to zoom past them and run.

I stay at alt for as long as I can and look for targets that are by themselves. I drive down at them and either use the R40TD or R60M.

At the speeds you can travel, the R60M will be good for about 2.5km shots. As for the R40TD, at high alt and speed, you can fire it at targets out to 10km in side aspect. For low alt targets, maybe up to 7km out.

The jet relies a lot on not being noticed since it can not defend well and its missiles are easy to avoid in most cases. You are not a fighter but more of a sniper picking off unsuspecting targets.

Edit: I went and played a match to try to show my general game plan.

thanks so much
one thing i noticed, or more like realized, when you fired off flares/chaff when your rwr warned of a lock is that i hadnt been doing that lol. because obviously i didnt have chaff until i unlocked it, and so after unlocking chaff i still didnt use it because i had already came to terms with not having chaff and forgot about it
when you say β€œIf they are closer and closing in, I try to zoom past them and run.” do you try to get a heatseeker off or not?
and since you have this specific loadout, how would it change things without the R40TD, when would you use the TD instead of the RD? (i dont have any mods except flares/chaff)

Keep in mind that your RWR will not give you a launch warning. A solid lock on you for more than a second or two usually means they have or will soon fire at you.

I usually dont. They know I am there and if they have flares, they can easily counter my IR missiles.

Without the TD, I guess run 4xR60M and 2xR40RD. Game play wise, you will be trying to find more high alt targets and you will not be doing any long range IR shots. R60Ms will be more for diving on a guy and firing them from dead above them.

I usually try for the RD in the first-stage of the battle if I can. Anyone flying towards my direction between 10-18km out.
For TD, Depends on the enemy’s alt.
High alt: firing at them from the side or rear from 7-10km out.
Low alt: firing at them from above from 5-8km out.

Your IR missiles will only work if they do not know you are firing on them since a single flare can counter them.
