The Bison wouldn’t be a 13.0 aircraft in my opinion and most likely 12.7 and simply due to the lack of missiles It would carry.
And you need to remember that most 12.7 and 13.0 aircraft get sucked down to 12.0 pretty frequently and the current major issue you’re concerned about is decompression not the vehicle receiving R-77s itself.
I’ve mentioned this many times and will mention it again, the Bison equipped with R-77s would have a similar performance to the IRIAF F-14A.
Both would have ARH but the Fakour-90s would be overall far superior and the host aircraft in general would have a larger kill potential due to significantly more missiles on board like the R-27R1s and AIM-9Ps.
This is published by the Bharat Rakshak and contains the MiG21Bison, It’s birth and the induction process, please read through it to find the use of r77s in the bison.
EDITED IN :
above is a link to a New Channel Post about the bison shooting down of the F16 fighter jet, It includes a few points of which is the Bison having the R77, I know news outlets are not a good source of information but it’s information nonetheless
well known bison has the r-77, its not added as a balancing feature. r-77 are one of the worse and perform similar to r27r1 range wise, and very underperforming missiles rn. if bison gets r77 it can go to :-
13.0 :- too weak, has the worst radar with one of the worst FM for its BR. missiles are fox 3 but not really good. kfir with derbys (similar to r77 performance) atleast has a better fm, wayy better radar and lots more.
12.7 :- too strong, earliest fox 3 carrier other than f14a with aim54.
Not really. FM is pretty dookie but it’s not like a Harrier or something. And unlike the Kfir the Bison has IRCCM and HMD
I really don’t think R-27R->R-77 is a mere 0.3 BR change.
Old post but still: the J-8F is the closest analogue, that is 13.0 with 2 ARH missiles, 4 IR missiles that don’t have IRCCM while being an old platform among F-16s/etc. I can’t see the Bison being anything less than 13.0 with 2 R-77+2 R-73E.
The J-8F is pretty overtiered and especially when you use the F/A-18C Early as an example, it could easily go down to 12.7 without being ground breaking. The PL-12s still struggle to reach their maximum range due to excessive wobble and the J-8F itself is just a over glorified MiG-21.
Two RVV-AEs are easily equivalent to six AIM-7Ps and especially on a platform like the F/A-18C Early, people overestimate the performance of ARH missiles and missiles in general.
We all went crazy when the R-73E was first introduced, it’s now the standard and nothing special
Oh yeah and additionally, the SU-33 sits at 13.0 with eight R-27ERs and four R-73s alongside a modern RWR and far superior flight model.
R-77 sucks. Giving it R-77 would uptier it to 12.7 or higher. At this point you have the superior mig 29. Maybe 4x R-77 would justify placement but otherwise it’s better to stay as it is currently.
I am for raising the Bison’s BR to 13.0 and adding 4 R77s. As well as the options of 2 R77s and 2 R73s and of course 4 R73s for fans of close air combat). The question is, how can I try to give the possibility of changing the BR? Should I create a topic in the developer suggestions (there and/or a poll)? I even found photos confirming the Bison’s ability to carry R77s on its long and short pylons. Unfortunately, there is no confirmation of the ability to carry ER missiles.
Just ask for the MiG-21 “Bison” with R-77 to be added to the tech tree. The premium Bison is good as it is now—it’s an excellent close-combat aircraft.
Gaijin probably will just add mig 21-93 as an event vehicle for russia. There, you will have your garbage air frame at 13.0 with 4 r77s. Although, it does get 120 cms which is a plus.
