I asked in my other post what shell people main in midtier. (~8.7± 1) This is the BR I struggle most at, besides top tier. (Again, see my other post.) Mostly because of chieftain (Rooikat is a blast I highly recommend). So I’m asking this so I know typically what ammo types are used in these contemporaries, because it can make a huge difference. (Example 3BM-4 vs 3BM-3)
-M60
-M48 (7.7 and Germ 8.3)
-Leopard 1
-T54 (both 8.0s)
-T62 & M-1
-T55AMD1
-T64A & B
-T72A
And for KE projectile mains, do you carry HEAT? (For either an HE or for something you can’t pen or any other reason)
I will list what i suggest for each one.
20-25 M392A2 with 5 M456
7.7: 15-20 M82 and 10 M431
8.3: 20 DM23 and 5 DM512
20 DM13 and 10 DM12
15 BR-412D and 10 3BK-5
20 3BM3 and 5 3BK4
20 3BM21 and 5 3BK15M
20 3BM25 and 10 BR-412D
20 3BM22 and 5 3OF26
20 3BM42 and 5 3OF26
20 3BM22 and 5 3OF26
Chemical rounds tend to be more rng so i try to avoid them. If i have apfsds or a good sabot, i will still keep a few HE of heatfs to overpressure light stuff.
For a couple tanks, i will keep heatfs for thicker armor but i find myself still wanting to use kenetic
Thank you so much for this insight. A few things surprised me, just a few questions.
-Why HEAT over 9M117 ATGM? ATGM better pen and overpressure, plus course correction? (The only soviet like tank I have is the Bhishma TWMP and those 9M119M1s are super fun and good)
-Why take lower angle pen dart? 3BM28 Has considerably higher angle pen.
-Why APHE instead of 9M117 ATGM?
The 3BM28 does have better angle pen but only at extreme angles. I usually only go for high angle shots when i am trying to get a shot into their sides. The side armor of mbts is low enough that you shouldnt need much pen to get though.
This is just preference so you are not hurting yourself by taking the other round. Kind of a side-grade imo.
ATGM is slower. Gives them more time to avoid it and/or fire at you.
I would rather take the shot and keep moving rather than having to sit still while trying to aim the missile.
Most same reason as above. plus APHE in generally massively over performs. Works great for flanking.
The M-1 and AMD1 both have full stabilizers and can be fired on the move. (unlike regular ATGMs like TOW and MILAN)
I guess its just a balance of overpressure ability and pen compared to drawbacks for the chemical slot. (Which is what chem shell/slot is for; overpressure and maybe pen. Mostly I have HESH but some things have HEAT. For me I take heat because having pen along with overpressure is nice- after all HESH is really iffy and unreliable against larger lights. So in this case with higher overpressure and pen personally I’d 100000% take the ATGM.) But yeah valid reason.
Again, valid. But I wouldn’t really know what flanking is like (British tanks typically a lot less mobile) and the APHE is nuclear- I’ve felt it first hand. But for nonflanking (Like if it was slower/ unable to) and in headons again personally I’d take ATGMs cause it has higher pen and basically guaranteed overpressure frontally. It all comes down to how the tank itself is used; not shells determining how the tank is used. (OFC there’s exceptions and you could play like this but that’s sorta stupid and why would you limit the tank and yourself?)
True, but i personally dont like having to try to control the missile while moving.
It is a question of do you value better damage or quicker results.
100%. Most unreliable round in the game it feels like.
Luckily British dont get APHE ;)
It is just my play style. I try my best to always flank and avoid head ons regardless of what im playing.
Yup, many tanks will have a certain ammo type that works best for your playstyle. What works best for me wont always work best for you.
