There’s also the Bf 109 X with the P&W R-1830 Twin Wasp (So German + American engine)
There were two 109 Xs, that one was supposedly built (for export purposes) but I’ve never found more information on it, nor pictures.
The second 109 X project however did result in a functional aircraft.

This hybrid only existed to prove that the BF-109s engine didnt need massive radiators to keep cool.
It didnt keep its guns and was nothing more than an engineering test mule. I dont think its really valid for addition.
Id love to see it but it couldnt be implemented accurately. no guns & no bombs would make it worthless
my initial comparison to RAFWaffe wasnt right either, No. 1425 Flight RAF did keep weapons on the captured aircraft they flew. Do believe they still are worthy to be added, shame that MesserSpit isnt…

I am saying no to the MesserSpit with its swapped engine, but I am going to say yes to the German-captured Spitfire Mk. Vb in its original configuration, before its armament was stripped away and its engine swapped for pure flight evaluation.

Because the unique modification completely removed its armament, and there is no evidence in German documents indicating that they intended to put it into armed service or equip it with German armament.
Thus, the MesserSpit does not qualify as an unfinished prototype and is unsuitable for addition to the game under the current guidelines IMO.
I am also against with giving its fake armament which it was never considered or planned by any official sources.

No it’s not unsuitable. But at the same weight (with guns and ammo) as the Mk V with the Merlin engine it would perform worse. By the way those tests are flown with a 1.30 ATA manifold pressure. 1.30 ATA DB 605 doesn’t exist in the game, right? The Messerspit would be the first. The Finnish 109 G-2 uses the fake 1.42 manifold pressure which was never used in Finland. The G-6’s use the even more fake 1.8 manifold pressure. Finland never used MW-50. Three were shipped with MW-50 by accident and the system was removed immediately once received. We wouldn’t even have had methanol to fill the system so pure water would’ve had to be used instead.

I dunno but it looks terrible in movies if it’s trying to represent a 109.
Actually I interpreted the chart wrongly. It might be a little bit faster under 4 km even with the added drag of the guns. Climb rate should be avout the same and maybe a little worse over 4 km. They didn’t test the Spit climb rate apparently.
maybe the german players learn to stop turnfighting the spitfire if they get one

This is wrong. The engine power should be around 1310 PS because the test were run at 1.30 ATA manifold pressure as is stated on the attached chart. 1.42 ATA (1475 PS) wasn’t allowed at the date of the tests so naturally it wasn’t used. Also the weight is wrong when armed. The armament was removed and the tests were run without them, and the weight stated on the chart is 2730 kg.

Yeah, some of the mods they did don’t look too good.
Afaik they didn’t modify the wings so technical compatibility still exists, at least to a greater extent than some stuff we have in the game

Weizman’s black Spitfire in the Israeli tree was a display aircraft from the 1950s, with its armament removed. All the firing and ejection ports are faired over on the real plane. It’s not one of the Spitfires Weizman flew in combat for the IAF.
It gets armament on the basis that the plane (TE554) had formerly been armed
