Come to think of it, the MesserSpit would also open the door to quite a few funky possibilities. If I remember correctly, there are a couple of dozen Yak 3s, 7s, and 9s that were built in the 90s to wartime spec with American engines (due to the terrible performance and reliability of the original Soviet engines). Those would be neat to see, even if they are mostly civilian birds.

There were two 109 Xs, that one was supposedly built (for export purposes) but I’ve never found more information on it, nor pictures.

The second 109 X project however did result in a functional aircraft.
