Merkava Mk 4M-400: A Next-Generation Upgrade for Modern Battlefield Resilience

Haha my name isn’t Noam, it’s just a nickname. I never reveal my real name in the internet

Ohh ok lol

Not 65 tons. IDF confirmed it’s at least 80.

The only way to make Barak unique would be to be able to see the commanders CITV feed even while in third person as a picture-in-picture. After all one of the things Iron Vision does is slaving the movement of the CITV to the movement of the TC´s head.

I don´t notice any visible differences between the armor geometry compared to older models. One armor element I know for certain its changed in Barak is the use of different, bigger and much heavier side plates, named after the tank itself. Apart from that it may have gotten internal improvements on other armor modules but I don´t know of any evidence of it.

I think the bineculars should get a sight and thermals on the barak that will make it unique and ofc upgraded aps

Wait thats huge
Can u give us the source?

A crewman told me about it, he couldn´t provide sources himself but during training they get details on the types of sideplates that were used in Merkava over the years. The first generation sideplates weighted each 40kg while ´Barak´ sideplates weight 70kg. In between there was a different type of sideplates known as ´Batash´, which weight 60kg. Merkava 4s that were deployed to Gaza during the war had these replaced by “Gaza plates”, which weight 80kg. The latter can be confirmed by crewmen accounts and video evidence released by both sides to be able to withstand 105mm tandem CE warheads across 180º arc.

Supposedly the Barak sideplates are better than Gaza plates, which I doubt.

Very cool

So you can look at the bolt pattern/count on the underside of the turret, as well as the geometric difference. The underside of the 4M is a straight angle, but the underside of the 400 is a curve throughout. Chunkier at the front then curves inwards for a more dramatic angle. There’s a few good videos out there that you can see it on. Again, the only thing obviously different is that underside, not the top half, so any speculation on the top half is speculation.

From the pictures of the blown up Barak as far as I can tell it’s the same as the 400.

If you can make picture-to-picture comparison, it would come extremely useful. Myself I can´t do it at the moment.

However I will caution, while changes in the bolt pattern may indicate changes in the modular reactive armor, it may also be just an optimization of the shape and layout of the flyer plates, which doesn´t imply on itself an upgrade in KE protection capability provided by the module.

Israel needs whatever it can get for armor buffs. it is very very overdue that gaijin implements it

I would love to have a more armored Merkava ingame. It will be our 2A7V equivalent, Good platform, Better armor than previous variants.

The m4m is allready should be on par with leo 2a7
M4 barak is leo 2a8 level

This is a good one where we can see the 400’s turret. Slightly more aggressive angle.

This is a good one to see the front lower turret armor for the front adjacent pieces.

I think the front lip might be different? Maybe curves up and that pushes things to be off?

The mk4m front lip. looks a little different? thinner? maybe doesn’t curve. Hard to tell.

Small difference for sure, and you are right, the armor could even be worse to cut costs. We will never know as there is so much secrecy about Merks. The change is minor there either way, take it for what you will.
My theory is that the front lip is a little different, and the change in the backplate changed the geometry which changed bolts. Who knows though. Either way, small difference there.

Idf said its more armored
Maybe diffrent materials? Or layout

Likely both, they have no shortage of R&D and patents. I remember reading somewhere that they spend more % GDP on military research than anyone else.

And foreign sales skyrocketed and a favorable change in Purchase Power Parity at the same time.

But, that’s all the publicly available info I’ve got.

I think it’s all academic though. Gaijin will put whatever armor values they think are appropriate for where they think non-big-3 tanks should be.

So true

what? this is so confusing
