october 7th? the merkavas were not combat ready.

as you can see, the barrel is covered, probably no ammo inside too.
It was high quality footage so I’m not surprised if it’s been censored.
Ohh okay, I didn’t really understand what you meant because the post was so short lmao.
Better than Russian era? Well I got news for you it’s a marketing lie , probably doesn’t work , even if it was real it would be a useless addition to the game, not enough info, it’s an unbalanced addition, it’s physically impossible
“It’s a marketing lie, Source: trust me bro”. What the frick is this statement? They don’t export SLERA to third world countries who don’t know any better or have no other choice, unless it was tested and proven to work it wouldn’t’ve made it onto the main battle tanks that are currently in service, there’s no money to be had. Why would you give benefit of the doubt to a country that was building lies as a form of protection and fearmongering for the west for 70 years and continues to do so to this day with them “4,5+++ jets or some 20 Mach ahh scientifically impossible bullcrap” but a country that has proven their technological advances through real battles for the past 50 years is somehow untrustworthy? ““well i got a news for you”” ahh industrial military complex expert. Lmao. Let’s believe a country that still sell SAM sites which can’t track low flying targets to this day yet claims can take down stealth aircraft. Ironically that’s their way of dodging any realistic change that would buff non Russian vehicles
They have multiple defenses against it
All to get sekrit documents and save it for themselves as we have seen in the leaks
Russia always gets the benefit of the doubt just to make someone angry and reach that point to leak something
Which is almost always the case why some weapons get artificially nerfed in the name of “balance” instead of getting a br increase
Why when it comes to Russia gaijin has no problem acting on vague data but anything else needs a official document source , 2 secondary sources and a third party expert opinion if not they can easily say “not enough info” if they see it as major buff or if everything was provided it’ll be passed to devs and implemented after a few years when Russia gets something stronger than it or something that counters it
Example? Pantsirs
new coming anti radiation missiles
Fnf missiles
They’re ok with making a few thinks not over perform in small number of categories but they never let any other nation have better spaa or cas missile than Russia which is why we see the big gap between the techs age used in other nations
They added a turret basket so we demand to get a buff to armor otherwise it’s over
What’s ironic is that in case of the Merkava series, the tank was made with survivability of the crew, against both insurgency and tank warfare, in mind and with no sacrifices for the sake of export to the point where even the basket behind the turret is designed with intent to stop rpg rounds. Not saying that other tanks aren’t made for battles, but Merkava pushes it to the limit with them 80 tons, APS, ramp door for easier exit, it would be foolish to suggest that with all that they didn’t implemented any armor. But because it’s not Russian for some reason the turret checks are made out of 5mm tin. Like… why? This is definitely isn’t an approximation due to security reasons, t72 can pen that thing with cold war round. The thickness of the metal on available photos, even if we take 1 to 1 thickness to mm protection ratio, is smaller than what is in game by miles, so according to gaijin, the Merkava is made out of something weaker than copper. It just feels like they added Israel to then just steal all the few unique features of the tree like APS, Spikes, SPICE ect and give away to other nations. US, USSR, Britain, and probably Germany in near future, all have top tier APS now, so what’s the point of getting Merkava then? It’s unique feature was given to others but the founder was left to rust. Small playerbase of the tree? Well it doesn’t stop them from adding turret basket and changing composite type is it? Genuinely no logic or reason in Gaijin’s actions, feels like ragebait or they’re getting paid to do that.
To be fair I’m sure gaijin looked at photos of composites damaged, and taken off/apart, aswell as looked at the threats in its area (asymmetrical warfare). Air superiority & recon being HEAVILY relied upon and modeled based off these facts.
A tank weighing a lot and being larger than every other tank doesn’t = better protected. In fact it can indicate it’s worse protected. This combined with the fact that the armor seems to be modeled more spread out rather than focused in one area also adds into this issue. The side armor is actually able to be angled and defeat even good darts on the Mark 4, the rear armor is tough as all hell unless you have a large autocannon. Overall, it has pretty good CE protection being immune to 9M120, SpikeLRII (LOS), 9M117M1. Being completely vulnerable to 9M123, 9M133 (albeit the engine can soak this one up more common I guess because lower momentum pen before the charge). I will say when angled its upper side armor can be immune to even the strongest of ATGMs even at 30 degrees.
While other MBTs don’t come close in some aspects. I do wish it was stronger CE wise, and kept the great mobility. As being a dubious 80 tons with only going from 350mm of armor to 427mm (if we increase based on weight percentage) at such a high BR wouldn’t be worth it imo. One of the main reasons Russian tanks don’t have 2000mm, drive fully stabilized at 50mph, etc is because we do have to stick to documentation, and provable evidence. So if we can prove it has more than 580 KE in protection in meaningful areas? I’m fine with 70 tons maybe. But for 80 tons? If we can’t prove it has 900mm it’s gonna be a massive hinderance than a boon. 427mm isn’t a justifiable increase imo (mango doesn’t care even at 2000m)
.
I just checked the MK 4 armor and I way underestimated the turret. It’s 500-540mm KE. With the hull being about 300 (I over estimated). If we angle it comes to 410-432mm. The side armor still being immune. If we do an increase of 20% to all these parameters. At 29 degrees heading the UFP goes to 540mm~ the side armor. Side corner goes to from 757 to 908mm KE, the loader end of the side armor where it is weakest goes from 450mm to 540mm KE, the other ends go from 600mm to 720mm. Lower side goes from 156mm to 187mm KE. Turret goes from 387mm to 464mm at said angle.
The turret front goes from 185mm - 515mm on the gunner commander side frontally 222mm - 618mm. You still will get penned in the same places you do with 3bm60. M829A2 will still go through just not as easily if you wiggle slightly. It’s just enough armor around the tank to be noticeably better in protection but I don’t know if it’s enough that I’d want the tank to be with a 18.75 HP/T ratio from the currently pretty useable 23 HP/T. If it had better side turret armor and a big turret bustle rack? I’d be on board but you lose so much map control it isn’t even funny.
I still remember the image of a mk4 tanked a kornet at the turret. Cant do that in game…
the thing is in game CE protection arent that good aswell.
Not really an argument but a deduction that I have is that i personally find it hard to believe that Israel who has been going against USSR supplied equipment ever since it’s independence has not considered adding armor specifically designed against such equipment, if not on early Mks due to embargos and lack of expandable budgets but on Mk4 for sure, maybe even Mk3, especially considering that they’ve been developing Merkava for themselves without export in mind. Israel is not Iran which has no options but to buy Soviet obsolete equipment due to sanctions and lack of qualified personal, they can and be developing their own stuff for themselves which are tailored specifically for their own needs and doctrine, which involve fighting against soviet equipment. I doubt they be saving on armor and lying about capabilities as for one there is no money to be had, and two almost every month on a Thursday afternoon the said capabilities are tested in real battles. Again, not an argument but logical thought.
Merkava is getting a turret basket fcs amd powersystems model next update and no amour changes we are so cooked
Do we know for sure? Is there photos of the interior at the same spaces lining up with the impact? That’s an EZ bug report if so.
Nope when this image first came out, its claim to be hit by a kornet. It will be nice if anyone can help us confirm the source.
It’d be hard to tell what exactly hit it because of a lack of video and the damage itself isn’t enough to say either because of how SLERA works. We can’t go off what was said in the original article either as that would be hard to confirm without the previously mentioned footage.
Yea I agree, I can’t find the original source.
found out today the hood can blowoff

Sometimes you can survive kh38s and your tank will start looking really sad, all of your bits will pop off. As far as i know though losing the frontal plate there doesn’t reduce the actual armor though, it’s been a while since i checked though.
I once tank 2 kh38mt a lmur and a few hellfires in my mk4b.(that was before mk4 roof nera nerf). Nearly everything broke down. All crew survived.
