Still think I would prefer a version of this gamemode without nukes. And instead deep-strike like bases attackable with just conventional weapons.
Ive done multiple conventional bomb runs vs ammo depots, and im not sure you can actually damage them with 1000lb bombs
oh,
where they at? the depot areas?
*and runway cratering munitions
Yeah, that too, Gimme JP233
Yes
does this mean naval too or is that not here yet?
ngl runway damage mechanism could be an interesting one too, as in repair timer you had to wait for them to be repaired or if someone do another run will it reset the timer again, plus swedish flygbas road airstrips for nearby airbase too
Honestly I definitely agree.
I think if they just changed the mode to be called “war escalation” or something and removed the nukes it would be better.
Though I’ve already touched on this in the last NE event forum, nukes should only be on large or tactical bombers, or none at all. Having fighters with nukes is just too easy and not encouraging actual teamplay/dismantling of the AA defenses.
Besides, making the mode not be centered around nukes, would make it way easier to add WW2 stuff. Like imagine if the only ways to get rid of the airfields was using an actual big bomber that requires some team play in order to get to the airfield, by first destroying the AA and keeping it defended from enemies, instead of now where some fighter can just fly low and fast and get there easily.
Not only would this line up with the new plans to make bombers tougher but also allows gaijin to finally actually add more strategic bombers.
Also removing nukes entirely would also allow for more specialized munitions to be added, like airfield cratering ones (I believe one of the tornados already has one, would be cool to actually be able to use)
Yea, I think this mode would do a lot better if they had the tech they’re working on for it, such as proper munition RCS, EW, more ARMs and aSHm, problem is they are currently using a stopgap solution, they said they’re working on it and unfortunately all we can do now is wait for them to actually make and add it to the game.
It kinda already is a thing, only used in ASB though
But definetly give runway cratering wepaons a large damage multiplier vs specific targets
I still think that the lockout timer is too long, I understand why it exists. But I feel like a better rework is to make it specific to an airbase instead of a vehicle, eventually forcing you to spawn at the main airfield if you dont wait for the timer to end. I just feel like it is too long at 8 minutes, and forces you to have a lineup, making it not good for grinding a specific vehicle.
This is literally no different from gaijin giving convoy AI the ability to shoot down FnF missiles with roof mounted guns lol, it’s peak lazy snail shenanigans and they refuse to listen to players
The ZSU-23-4V and M163 are basically CIWSs at this point. Incredibly accurate fire, fast reaction speed, and advanced target acquisition able to track anything in the air.
It’s so frustrating that both of these are unobtainium, seriously why don’t we get a Pakistani sub with all these modified planes? I wanna play the A-5C, I wanna play the F-6C, I wanna play the Mirage IIIO ROSE and Mirage 5F ROSE III…
I didn’t pay attention so I didn’t realize it was going to be 8.7-11.0 ONLY and now I’m annoyed because I have nothing exciting in that range besides F117 which I’ve already tried and realize how undeveloped stealth is.
I’d prefer that… it sound better than Nuclear. It’s weird to toss nukes all over the place , in that frequency at least.
Yes, however in the version we play now… Su-7 (or Jag without CMs) without CMs vs All-aspect (for example) … yes.
You take off , believing you are fast , until you see MiG 23 beelining on you 1,2 mach on the deck ez-chillax-like nothing happening , while it might be a 25 topdowning you at mach 2…! Fun!
But yes, in the other brackets with CMs etc. it was very cheap.
In another note balance is relatively crap at the 10.0-11.0 bracket. It should have been 10.3-11.0, at least most of planes have CMs.
Most 10.0s don’t even have CMs and there are plenty of all-aspect and SARH missile users. Hell, many 9.7s have CMs and 10.0s don’t. It’s weird and doesn’t feel good…
I have experienced success in using 2x AGM-65B on each SPAA, and also exploiting the small gap in time between bursts of fire. The 10.0-11.0 anti-ground experience is fine, but for most vehicles in BR range 8.7-9.7, which only have unguided munitions without CCIP/CCRP, are completely unusable against ground targets. Therefore, the games in the lower bracket are almost entirely full of people dying en masse to the M163s or ZSU-23-4Vs, and it is nearly impossible to effectively play an anti-ground role.

On the other side of things, the only SHORADSs on the frontlines being these two gun SPAA makes the Nuclear Thunder a completely different mode than before. If you aren’t trying to destroy targets, you can easily avoid enemy SPAA fire, and completely break through the enemy’s front lines without even engaging anything. This makes it not really feel like Nuclear Thunder anymore. One of the most important elements of Nuclear Thunder was SACLOS SPAA which made going through enemy lines hard or impossible without the coordinated destruction of the aforementioned air defenses in the area.
This aspect is realistic for the Vietnam era, but it is quite a difference. It results in everybody, nuke aircraft and all, going straight through everything as if there were no defense at all. Every match is marked by the quick destruction of multiple airbases by both teams. I suppose all of this places more responsibility onto players to defend the airspace, which is an interesting change. After having played Nuclear Thunder in its previous iterations for so long, the silence of the RWR (or even lack of it) is conspicuously omnipresent. Both teams, made up of aircraft with look-up radar or none at all, have a much harder time finding each other. It’s less lively, and the aircraft are slower, making it less engaging. It almost feels lonely. If I were to make one change, I would have the player count for each match increased because of these reasons. In any case, the game mode continues to be multifaceted and interesting.
Does Sweden have any viable aircraft to use in this br range? I just tried to bring my J35XS and just got dog walked. I’m staring at the rest of the tree and don’t see anything that particularly stands out as somewhat useful. If it was up to 11.3 I could’ve brought JA37C as a counter to the Mig-25.
Honestly i second this seeing as currently there is really no real way to counter the mig 25s, and i would love to be able to use my F-4E instead of the F-4C. I would say tho that aircraft like the SU-39 and AV-8B (NA) would need to be added to the forbidden list. The SU-39 because of the Kh-25MPU with broad band seeker, and the AV-8B (NA) due to its ability to carry JSOW glide bombs, also the SU-24M if we are strictly going for Vietnam like weaponry. But this should also allow the use of the MIG-27K/M.
I believe that all aircraft equipped with All-aspect IR AAM should be excluded from this mission. In this task, there are a certain number of aircraft that do not have CMD, and even the Nuclear carrier aircraft also does not have CMD. Introducing a large number of aircraft equipped with All-aspect IR AAMs rashly will completely destroy the survival capabilities of these aircraft. I propose lowering the upper limit to BR10.7 and additionally excluding A6E, A7K, A10A, SU25, Sea Harrier FRS1, Alpha Jet TH, and AMX.
