This is not correct. Here is why:

See previous exchanges - this is an opinion based on the LW doctrine that enemy bombers were the main targets and fighters were not seen as a threat. The aircraft in itself was a fighter. That it was optimized to take down the main treat (=bombers) was logical.

Have in mind that there were no USAAF bombers present whilst the aircraft saw it’s maiden flights in 1941 and 1942; the 8th AF arrived later…

What most people forget in some discussions (like interceptor or not) was the rather limited flight time of a 262 of roughly 30 minutes (with reserves) - a 109 with a drop tank had roughly 100-110 minutes. It is therefore logical that 262s were used in a defensive role. That’s why the night fighter variants carried drop tanks to increase the limited flight time…

the main problem is

…that wt is even within their niche mode Air SB not even close to realism regarding actual combat ranges or combat scenarios. So the wt game play in itself (setup for fights) and the implementation of weapons and armament is a compromise in order to make the game playable for masses.

So if the game enables players to fiddle with gun convergence and allows totally unrealistic combat ranges a weapon like the MK 108 becomes borderline useless as thanks to stuff like way too low contrail altitudes and markers (like in Air RB) there are no surprise effects possible. The way too high g-loads allowing players to dodge a jet attack is just a side note.

In other words: A fighter designed to overcome the conceptual disadvantage of piston-engine fighters (top speed) armed with a short range weapon does not fit in the wt meta. If it not fits, it needs a BR which allows it it to overcome these drawbacks.

Nonsense # II: The C variants were developed to increase climb and to overcome the rather slow acceleration. I strongly recommend to replace opinions with facts / actual knowledge.

And please stop this dogfight nonsense: WT and IRL are separate worlds. There is and was no need for dogfights with allied fighters - simply because of the ability of 262s of engaging or disengaging at will. This turnfight / dogfight mess you see in wt is not realistic.

Mhm - according to statshark you played the 262 A-2a 6 times in Air SB in the last 2 months - compared with 106 matches in the same plane in RB.

The C variants never existed irl.
The ME-262 was designed as a Fighter, pressed into service as a fighter bomber by a certain someone and later got to do what was needed most at the time: interception work.

I would always call it a fighter you may of course call it a multi role fighter.

Even surperprops have no issue fighting 262s. They’ll never get hit if they have the rare ability to move their mouse a little.

Yes, as long as you plan a little bit before you fly aka not flying directly at the enemy you can side climb and attack them from behind before they are even prepared. I take out the other early jets first because they take a while to accelerate; then I go for props, then run when they spot me. Then just fly until their energy is drained, then take them out. It’s just a plane; you can’t run in without a plan in it.
