This will be hype with f106 and f102 does anyone know if theres a f103
??
It’s supposed to be Republic F-103, an interceptor with a mach 3 capability, but it never progressed past the mockup stage.
Thanks :D i didnt know why there was a gap
almost got all the forgotten cold waar planes in tthe suggesttion box now just b52 v bombers b58 b46 tu95 and few misc ones
I don’t know battle rating 9.3 or 9.7
Located after F-100D to rank VI but before F-4C ?
The Century Series is just kinda odd like that. They went F-100, F-101, F-102, skipped F-103 (reserved for XF-103 which never made it past the mockup stage, as Nostalgisitc mentioned), F-104, F-105, F-106, F-107 was the competitor to the F-105, XF-108 never made it past the mockup stage, and there was no F-109. The Phantom might’ve been considered a Century Series aircraft had it kept the designation of “F-110A Spectre” in US service, but it never did.
What’s even funnier is after the F-111, there were also the “F-112”, “F-113”, and a few other odd designations (like YF-118G), but all of those were used for either evaluated Soviet/Chinese aircraft, or Black Projects.
This is the first variant of the F-101 that should be added. More usable than the B, and improved over the A (which would be redundant). The B could be a squadron vehicle or foldered.
the only difference between the A and C in the context of WT is that the C is 400kg heavier (worse flight performance than A)
the C is literally the redundant variant, it should be premium while A and B go to TT
Well the C can pull more Gs though, no?
how
Stronger structure lets it pull more without snapping according to the suggestiom
The C had structural reinforcements allowing it to pull more G.
It also was equipped to carry A2G ordnance (technically a tactical nuke, but by extension dumb bombs) on the centerline as well.
The C also had a better fuel management system preventing engine overheat with afterburner use.
The A is redundant.
So I know this post is geared more towards specifically the F-101C and not RF-101C, but I found an interesting image yesterday of an RF-101C(?) with a wing-mounted ECM pod:

Is there any info on what Voodoos had underwing pylons added (just for either fuel or ECM), and how or if they could be retrofitted to other Voodoos
I understand that some regular f101’s were equiped with ecm jammers, chaff dispensers and towed decoys to serve as targets for the william tell weapons meet, since they had the 2nd crewman to operate the pods as well as the required range, thrust and speed.
There’s some tow target footage here, and you can also see the ecm pod with it’s ram air turbine spinning:
PS: Quoting a comment on the video:
I was a Tow Systems Operator (TSO) at Tyndall and towed targets for three William Tell competitions, 72, 74 and 76. It was tough and demanding work for us because our shop was only manned with 6 personnel including an NCOIC. 5 of the 6 including the NCOIC were qualified TSO’s. Accept for the NCOIC the remaining five personnel performed all the maintenance, cable changes, loading and unloading the tow reel and target on the F-101B. When the smoke settled at the end of every competition day we worked hard into the late night down loading all the tow reels from the aircraft and bringing them back to the shop to overhaul and change out the airborne cable spool with a fresh one. This was common procedure after a target was blown off the cable with the resulting shock wave damaging cable strands making it impossible to reel in. Therefore the entire 40,000+ feet of cable had to be cut and dropped into the Gulf. Afterwards the overhauled tow reels had to be taken back out and loaded onto the respective Voodoo’s for the following day’s tow mission. 4 of the 5 personnel were TSO’s that had to fly the following day. It always was a grueling couple of weeks for us. Personally to me it was all worth it just to have the opportunity to fly in such a magnificent aircraft.
why gun armed voodoos should not be added over missile armed ones:

I want the 101B so badly, but I’d prefer to have both types than one or the other
Voodoo is such a cool plane though it kind of failed in Vietnam.
It was RF-101C not a regular F-101C, it’s like saying RF-84F or RF-4C failed in vietnam
I know Canada had the CF-101B and the Republic of China had a few RF-101As but its nice to see more of the Voodoo as its service record was not as desired mainly because it was not used how it was planned to be. But I do hope we see more of them of all versions.
