Since a month or two, I started playing Air Realistic and learning all the various aspects of it. For 2k hours of game, I played mostly GRB 95% of the time with some AAB few years back, so for now I’m not the greatest pilot, I have still a lot to learn :)
For now, I’ve reached the MiG-19PT in the USSR TT at 9.3 and to be honest, I can’t do sh*t with it, I have the terrible feeling of being annihilated by almost everything, as my current “super performance” is 1 kill for 16 deaths in 20 matches.
I oftenly facing some fast airplanes at altitude that runs on me with better stuff such as Mirage IIIC, MiG-21SMT, F4-C and so on (the usual 10.3 suspects) by taking Magic 1, some radar and R-60 family missiles (and other 30G missiles)… I try to escape by maintaining some speed at around 0.8 Mach, but once I’m chased sidely or at my 6, I can’t do anything (or I’m panicking too much ?).
Here are some replays showcasing my issues, since pictures worth better than thousands words:
With this, I try to take a new approach to the PT gameplay (not reflected in all the replays):
Take off, pick up speed
Side-climb at 20° at around 4000-5000m
Let the furball dissipate a bit and, survive and try to take opportunity kills
I know that current 9.3 BR is a uptier hell in ARB but being slapped like that can’t only be the fact that I’m flareless and facing all-aspect missiles, I have a feeling of missing basic things… I still trying to learn evade tactics, it takes times to be automatic in my gameplay.
I had troubles previously with the MiG-15 at first mostly due the cannons, but I managed to do some things with it (especially the bis version), not the best K/D but overall it was a challenging but a (way more) fun experience.
Tbh, the MiG-19 can very much be formidible, but it is very hard to play. I personally am not the person to ask when it comes to how to play it, but here’s some guides from DEFYN and the likes.
Thanks ! Already subscribed to these 2 guys and already check those videos. And yes, I think there are potential here, but it seems to take a hell of a learning curve ouch
The problem with this is I fear that I won’t spawn it that much since most of the games are 9.7+ BR :/ I hate giving up on difficulty, but sometimes you can’t resist
I completely agree, and I believe that is why the Q-5s (heavier but more powerful Mig-19 with flares) are going to 10.0. The Mig-19 has such an great flight model, yet it’s ruined by BR compression.
I personally struggle with mine due to the NR 30s, I cant aim them for the life of me. That said, its flight performance is formidable and outmaneuvers Fishbeds. I would suggest using it as support and only take fights that are 1v1. I find all my kills come from the R-3S lol
It’s a difficult yet rewarding bird to field, the first time playing it in the russian tree I definitely struggled but since coming back to it in the form of the J-6 I have managed to hold a 2.6 k/d over about 150 battles.
Firstly, for 9.3 it has amazing performance - your energy retention, acceleration and speed are all competitive in a full uptier (which is what you will see mostly). The guns are definitely weird to get used to, and with a lack nose authority at high speeds you will need to practice deploying the airbrake and such to try and get your shots on point sometimes.
A big part of the problem is you need time and careful execution to single out a fighter and bait them into a protracted fight and then kill them with the energy trap; often your kills will get third partied, or you yourself will die trying to set someone up.
Lastly, with no cm it’s safe to say don’t approach any 30g missile slingers until you’re sure they’ve fired everything off. 10g missiles are very easy to defeat as long as you keep your energy up, on the other hand, so not too much worry there. I usually save my own missiles for enemies that are distracted or near stall speeds.
So yeah, in short, a fantastic jet that has a playstyle not entirely fitting to air rb that’s difficult yet rewarding to learn.
