HISTORY
In the latter half of the 20s, it was necessary to look for an aircraft that could replace the Hansa Brandenburger W.33. The aircraft factory in Horten started investigations in 1927, and in 1930 it was possible to present alternatives where the factory’s own draft was attached, together with relevant aircraft types from England, France and the Netherlands. The Norwegian option was chosen. The navy wanted to be able to use existing aircraft sheds, so the wingspan had to be limited to 15.4 metres. This made it necessary to construct biplanes.
In the autumn of 1931, the prototype, the F.300, was test flown. All requirements for performance and characteristics were satisfied, and the aircraft was approved for production. This became the workhorse of the Navy’s Air Force in the 1930s, right up to the invasion in 1940, and was in operation in all contexts along the entire coast up to Svalbard. The main bases were Horten, Kristiansand, Bergen; Skattøra by Tromsø and Vadsø. They gained a reputation as the most robust and reliable aircraft ever built for the Navy Air Force in Horten.
The was a period done a lot of tests with the M.F.11 planes, and one of these included testing out a 20mm Oerlikon cannon that the Navy’s Airforce wanted to try out as they were acquiring that weapon for use in the new Heinkel He 115N which had been modified to fit the cannon. The trials/tests with the cannon was performed with the plane F.318 in February 1938, the 20mm Oerlikon cannon was mounted beneath the left wing of the plane and the tests completed were very successful and with good results, but the cannon itself were as mentioned not intended for use on the M.F.11 planes, but on the Heinkel He 115N planes.
WEAPONRY
This plane is still of the early service variant and could only carry 2x 50 kilogram bombs. The machineguns are 1x 7.92x57mm Colt M/29 “light” model machinegun wich is designed to be used on by the pilot of the aricraft and is fixed forward. The other 2x Colt M/29 machineguns are also designed specifically for the observers of the plane, and they are “mounted together/double”, chambered in the 7.92x57mm caliber and are movable. The 20mm oerlikon cannon is proably one of the earlier variants, i am not so sure as no specific model is mentioned but it is the same model/kind as the one they wanted for the Heinkel He 115N planes.
IN GAME
This M.F.11 Plane was tested with a 20mm cannon under the left wing, this would give the plane a much greater firepower both against ground and especially aerial targets which will help this plane a lot in-game. This is still the early version, so it could still only carry 2x 50 kilogram bombs but those are effective is used carefully. The guns are Colt M/29 machineguns with each their design/purpose and in the caliber 7.92x57mm. We don’t know if or how this would be implemented, but if it were to be in a Norwegian/Danish techtree or in the Swedish techtree it would proably be implemented during an event or battlepass.
