Major Update "Ninth Wave" - Rumor Round-Up & Discussion (Part 3)

british waiting for the meteor to be implemented on the f35 for years now because of that

It’s fighter economics(or F1 cars if that’s your thing) it’s Monopoly money.

Imagine if they had the foresight to make all 750

I won’t deny them doing shady stuff, I know they’ve been caught doing it, but realistically based on the current known parts and what’s available there more parts available on the market for basic repairs and long term maintenance. Real problem is SAAB are the only ones setting up these supply deals with Brazil which slows progress down since they take forever to come to a agreement on what to buy and how much.

Proper peak right there, I’ll glaze the hell out of the coolest stealth jet.

Besides looks are the main factor for me, the YF-23 screams future compared to the YF-22

nah the foresight was to cut production, the f22 was right on the cusp of a bunch of new technology that hadnt been integrated on it, and wouldve bloated the cost of it further if they had been, the cutting of it, and switch to f35 was the better option

No, there would be more incentive to upgrade the bigger fleet and economies of scale would reduce overall operating costs and improve availability

That’s been debunked, I’m at work currently and can’t go get all the stuff I’ve seen myself but if you dig enough you’ll find that the YF-22 was a more complete prototype, the YF-23 also didn’t have as many test hours compared to the YF-22 and realistically it only really beat the 22 in range (due to more fuel capacity) and slightly better radar cross section but the difference was so minimal it didn’t really matter.

Tell me SAAB didn’t copy the YF-23

Honestly never thought about how similar they looked

Starscream?

The British had far more issue then just that. From what I hear, the British F-35 stuff was meant to be close to the Israeli one with domestic control over the computer systems, but well…

Oh I know it was a nightmare part of that being Northropes money problems and such but idc, I just like the YF-23.

Kinda like how I prefer the F14 over the F15. Yeah the F15 could go mach 50 do 100G turns and I still wouldn’t care. I just like the Tomcat. Same logic applies to the black widow

Only the G1 version as an F15.

That or Armada was solid

Though when it came to the seekers I prefer Skywarps purple and black F15 camo.

Seriously missed opportunity to paint an F15 like any if the seekers

yeah, economies of scale like with the f35, which services multiple countries and military branches between each of those countries, plus the dev costs were more split between different countries allowing for a more advanced plane for the same cost

I’m a big lover of the YF-23 too, and its render of the would be production variant, the F-23 looks extremely cool

Gonna be honest I’ll give points to the F22 here.
F22 sounds better than YF-22.

And YF-23 sounds better than F-23, it’s like hearing F-47, it just doesn’t have that same ring to it imo.

Wish gaijin would make good collabs man, they could collab with Ace Combat and stuff to bring those types of camos and it wouldn’t bother those who prefer historical camos because you can just disable fictional ones

I’d kill for either a Ace combat crossover or Macross cross over when it comes to jet designs. Absolute peak stuff right there. Hopefully the next game is solid

Though part of me kinda hopes they don’t I don’t want them to go too overboard like World of Tanks and such. But neat camos or decals would be solid.

Exactly.

The YF-23 was more ambitious(risky).

Post Desert Storm, Post Berlin Wall there was already question as to the need for ATF program when the F-15 just proved it was cream of the crop. It was already looking like the original 750(1 for 1 F-15 replacement) was off the table.

Imagine if it had been selected, and likely had even fewer produced before the axe came than the F-22, how much worse the fleet would look, regardless of how capable it turned out.

Even if it lived up to everything it could have been, it would likely have been the worse choice, given the production reality it would have faced.
