I wonder how soldiers are expected to hit planes with MANPADS Starstreaks, if the ingame implementation of the Starstreak is even remotely realistic

IRIS-T IRL will track you forever, you cant run from it, you can’t decoy it.
Low down it will hit you
Range limitations are great until you realise Typhoon and others need to be within 5km to make their weapon systems work.

I’d imagine the Seeker/Laser designator auto tracks in some capacity?
Because there’s no way a soldier would be able to pinpoint a plane km away.
You lock the target, you fire, the missile finds its way straight to the center of the laser. All that . No lead or anything. Well, the optics/guidence head can rotate, so maybe, but overall the missile just yeets itself into the center.
Systems such as BOL exist to defeat these kind of seekers. IRIS-T will not be modeled have effectively the same seeker as IRL, as we do not have the countermeasures modeled properly, the only one that will be half a threat is the german one on account of reach. At which point, just drop a gps bomb on it, it is incredibly unlikely to move. Or a long range Brimstone launch, just lase before it impacts. These new threats will do very little but encourage stand off launches.

bombs will probably do better than missiles agaisnt these now im thinking about it. didnt they implement heat based on projectile speed a while back?
nope but according to some people we should be happy because other people got SAMs apparently

Glide bombs like GBU-39 and Grom 2 etc are going to be very good.
But general GBus no
