Python is just straight up better in the same range envelope, (which is pretty damming given even Python is botched beyond belief - barely pulling 30g).
The only use case for Derby I can think of is against the DIRCM Heli’s? But we all know Heli’s have the RCS of a fruit fly so I can’t see that going well either, not to mention if they get within 4km you can’t hit them even with a lock.
Such a baffling decision to not make it an ER. Not only from a wider perspective of balancing the vehicle against top CAS, but also just to give some incentive to actually use a Derby over the P5.

SLAMRAAM can hit high speed manuvering drone out to 20km
and given its AIM-120C-5 which somehow currently has the same ish speed as MIM-72, same with 9X which should have same range as Python 5
Spyder with SR would 100% reach 20km and ER more than 30km, Python 5 is around 10-15km
SLM would have up to 40km
some of the new missiles has less speed than mim-72 somehow
I’m fine with the ranges being somewhat reduced, but at least to still good levels.
If the sam ranges remain at this borderline useless ~8-10km effective range than it’s either deliberate CAS handholding from the devs or they have a significant misunderstanding of what the CAS problem truely is at top tier.
EDIT: hopefully we get an article after the dev closes that adresses this. Just like they did after the dev servers of some of the previous updates.
Yeah I know, but at least it gives me understanding of the thought process behind the decision.
I know that isn’t much, but I personally hate not knowing reasons behind a decision. I would much rather know a reasoning and disagree with it than not knowing the reasoning at all.
Whoever is currently making decisions for this update (and past updates) must be on some hardcore stuff. Like many kilos of every narcotic and drug possible at the same time.
It must be why there’s months long gaps between updates, there’s one guy who’s job it is is to go on a raging bender for 2 weeks with nothing but a whiteboard and sharpie and the devs take that whiteboard and make the update, then they have to wait for the guy to recover from the comedown of it all before starting the cycle all over again. Nothing else can explain it otherwise. (Other than money but they need to money to fuel the spree).
