Australian stuff should be prioritized for the UK imho
yeah, it was to do with the time and cost of getting the ASRAAM integrated on a new airframe, I bet the US gave them a nice deal on 9Xs as well to sweeten the pot
yeah mixed them up, a legacy hornet event plane for like the UK and a super hornet for the US could work, i doubt it tho
they do use existing AIM-9 parts, so naturally cheaper and easier to work with for air forces that have been using US weapons (im fairly certain australia did use AIM-9 before)
other way around would make more sense
The ASRAAM? Not anymore they don’t
no, i mean the 9X
why would it be the other way around? the legacy hornet uses british AAMs why would we get the one with american AAMs
na its just fun to talk about the drama that will come in the future lol
With AIM-9X block II+ they wouldnt
because if you add the one with american aam to the US tree, what does it bring to the US tree? nothing.
also, US was invovled in integration of ASRAAM to australian hornets in some way
yeah, well the 9X was already integrated on the Super Hornet, obviously.
But Australia had been using the ASRAAM until then, so it would have been an extra cost to acquire a new stock of missile, I wonder what they’ve done with their old ASRAAM stockpile
that one is quite interesting. a stealth AAM, in production too
destroyed it or sold it to someone else
Considering how fast that was flagged I think I was more on the head.
they mostly integrated all sorts of weapons firstly to an US aircraft, like F-16 with ASRAAM
so you just want the legacy hornet because you want a better AAM lol
You keep bringing this up, of course the US was involved, if you want to stick a new missile on a jet, your best bet is to go to the manufacturer, it’s not some amazing accomplishment.
Also, by that same logic the UK should get the SU-24
