Major Update "Firebirds" - Rumor Round-Up & Discussion (Part 2)

Not having HMD will be a slight pain though

The PL-12 should be roughly AIM-120C level, if not slightly better, and the AAM-4 should be around AIM-120C-5 level.

The J-15 uses the J-11B’s avionics system, replacing the WS-10B with more thrust, and I think that if the J-15 appears in the game, it will be a more maneuverable heavy fighter (because of the canards), but not too fast (although the engine with more thrust has been replaced, the increase in the equipment of the carrier aircraft also increases the weight). At the same time, CAS should also be good (if gaijin restores its performance to ground).

before I get accused of being called an American “shill” or some crap. The 3 Air Trees I currently have at top tier are Britain, France, and China

Followed closely by Russia and America…

so no I’m not arguing against the Eurofighter out of some Anti-Britain/Germany/Italy stance. I genuinely think the game is just NOT ready for that plane.

Except thats not the point. If Typhoon doesnt come in December, you know what will

Canadian F-18s for Britain
Swiss F-18s for Germany
Spanish F-18s for Italy
Finnish F-18s for Sweden
and probably nothing for France (Sorry @Hyrikul)

So every nation getting C&P F-18s instead of Typhoon/Rafale/Gripen E is deeply unfair and annoying. All because European nations arent allowed to be better than the US. After the Euro Canards those nations will have a long wait till they get the next generation, but the US has dozens of aircraft that can be added both before and after the F-18E. So add the Euro-canards first, then slowly catch up and overtake them ebfore adding the next set.

Doing it the other way rounds leaves mutliple nations in the dust with C&P Scraps.

The Mirage 2000-5F didn’t have it in service but was tested with it, so there’s a chance that all Rafales will get it.

I wouldn’t hold my breath for that one.

I just cant think of anything else they could possibly add without just leaving them with what they have now for the next what year?

You made an enemy for life.

It can, perhaps not early variant, but actual ones can do it.

Standard things for an Aussie.

respectfully you’re being incredibly ignorant…

There has been multiple points throughout war thunder where smaller nations have matched or surpassed the U.S. in regards to air power. The Typhoon, Rafale, and Gripen E are so far ahead of whats currently in the game that adding them would be unfair.

Whereas waiting until all 10 nations can stand on somewhat even ground is more fair.

What you want is to have a short era of superiority at the cost of the game state. When that’s not how it should be at all.

For context the Typhoon, Rafale, Gripen E would be the equivalent of when the F-16s and Mig 29s were added and Britain/Japan were stuck with F-4 Phantoms…

That does not need to happen to any nation again.

The F-16C/D and MiG-29SMT came before any other nations got counterparts, despite them at the time being much better. If it’s fine for minor nations to be behind, it’s okay for America and Russia to be behind.

Remember when F-14A was added with no equivalent in other nations?

That… thats just not true its going to be VERY strong arguably the BEST BVR misslie in game with a STRONG radar plus very good airframe? The fact its sub mach 2 doesnt mean anything its cruise speed is more then enough not to mention its 10 AMRAAMS AND 2 Aim-9Ms/Xs

In compensation we take a French F-15

And YF-17/18L

Or just the Swiss F-18 after all :p

But joke aside, Mirage 2000-5F Mk II, or Mirage 2000-9, or Mirage 2000D R2, or Super Etendard Modernisé… Not a lack of choice for waiting :p
Alongside unnerf on MICAs and we can wait.

Early Typhoons and Rafales are massively worse than the JAS39E.

Also, if you’re curious, the J-15 is basically SAC’s hybridization of the J-11B, Su-30MK2, and at least one (technically ill-gotten) Su-27K from the Ukrainians. KnAAPO and the Russian government wanted China to buy assembled planes from Russia, as well as receive more kits and pay for the technology and licensing for the navalization technology. China didn’t want to do that, so they reverse engineered the Su-27K, and produced at least one prototype before Russia found out.

Specific to the J-15 is the lack of AL-31F integration as Russia (at least at the time), did not want to sell AL-31F3 kits to China as a response to the creation of the J-15. This also reduces thrust and reliability, although both issues seem to be almost completely resolved by SAC.

the 29SMT was garbage on release and the 16C was barely better than the other 16s until it got Fox-3s…

also one update later Germany got the 29G which SWAMPED the SMT until the Su-27 came out (and was arguably still better than the Su-27)

The R-73 was cracked and its radar was one of the best.

Similar radar situation, and the AIM-9M was also great.

The key being “one update later”.

You’d lose that argument.
