the 29SMT was garbage on release and the 16C was barely better than the other 16s until it got Fox-3s…
also one update later Germany got the 29G which SWAMPED the SMT until the Su-27 came out (and was arguably still better than the Su-27)

The R-73 was cracked and its radar was one of the best.
Similar radar situation, and the AIM-9M was also great.

In my opinion
F-15E / F-18C with Aim-120Cs vs Typhoon with Aim-120B is a 100% fair fight.
The Gap between Typhoon and F-15C is no greater than the gap between the F4F-ICE and the F-15C we have in game right now.

It’s okay for any nation to be one update behind. It happens. But I’m not going to lie, nothing has been as fun as when the MiG-29 first came out, and you could just BVR almost anyone who tried to come close (because you’re stupid to dogfight the F-16).

While that may be true other tests say otherwise :p
Those tests also included ground capability which ofc the gripen will fall behind its quite a bit smaller

Considering I slap F-15C with the Sea Harrier FA2 without too much issue, then the F-4F ICE should be fine. Im currently spading the Tornado F3 AOP and its going okay so far. (and that is 90% stock with 2x Aim-9L and Aim-120B currently, I dont even get stock IRCCM like the ICE does)

The SA tests are a good example, also afaik the Gripen is the only Modern aircraft ik of thats rated to withstand 12g

If you go purely off vehicle performance the 15C dog walks the F-4F ICE, Tornado F3 Late, Mig-29 SMT, and JF-17.
