Major Update 'Alpha Strike" - Rumor Round-Up & Discussion (Part 4)

Ill say it they arent bad, but i only use them with 8km if im at altitude. 7F’s just feel better but not keeping at least one skylfash is a bad idea. Id say the whole reason the viggen stayed 11.0 is because of the poor flight model and abhorent damage model, but mainly only having 2 skyflashes.

Damn. It really is a suprise, but a pleasant one at that.

From what I’ve heard the Viggens radar really isn’t great.

If my only experience with the Skyflash was on a Spey Phantom I would probably share your opinion, but paired with a good radar like that on the Tornado F.3 or the Gripen they work great in close to mid range.

They lock chaff from the front for no reason, its a 50/50. Its frustrating to get it to lock and sometimes they hold well and sometimes they break from the slightest movements. Idk if id say its better then the 11.3 phantom radars but its definitely worse then the tornados.

I don’t know how its radar is tracking long range missiles, since there’s barely any point in launching its sky flash past 10 kilometres head-on anyways, other than that it’s radar is pretty good for situational awareness.

I’m also a sim player, there’s no world where you’d ever pick a sky flash over the invisible aim9m in sim at least.

Sure. The important question is about WHICH crazy powercreep planes arrive with the June 2024 patch for War Thunder.

If they are some insane frogleap in capability like JAS39A/C was compared to the previous planes (and even the ‘peers’ like Su-27 lmao) then we’re really going right off a cliff in terms of ‘balance’

I wont lie playing the viggen at 11.7 when the D was there was actually fun before 9L’s got nerfed then it just was pathetic to use when fighting f16s and mig 29s.

Balance hasnt been a priorty to gaijin for a while, the only real balance they focus on is their bank balance.

Oh nice, thailand, the most agreeable option for a subtree is being added to japan? Great choice, thank you devs

From my experience Skyflashes are best used at ranges below 8 km and the later you launch them, the better.

In sim tho, yeah, can’t argue with that. The Skyflashes just don’t have the range to be worth even considering them for sim at that BR.

If Japan get’s the Gripen C before Sweden too then that gonna be hilarious

IMO the Gripen was overdue. It’s FM is flawed right now but I think people are overreacting a bit with how dominant it is. People were saying the exact same thing about the F16 when it was dominating… That’s another topic though.

Yep. The later the better, I think you’re pretty spot on with the 8 km range, even at like 6km it’s deflatable if the enemy just turns more than 90° lol.

When MiG-29 got eviscerated by F-16 after the F-16 G limiter was removed and how Su-27 is getting absolutely demolished by any F-15 pilot with a functional nervous system…

You got lucky with your guess ok?

I have the su 27 and the f15 is just better but i would be lying if i said the su27 wasn’t more fun to fly. Sure su27 is slow and heavy compared to the f15 i kinda enjoy how it pulls in sim controls. Gameplay wise f15 is very potent. Su 27 is kind of a missile barge. Also man that low speed fm for the f15 is super nutty.

Or on top tier ground where the 2A7V and Strv 122s are in a completely different league compared to pretty much every other MBT.

If both sides play smart then yes, its pretty obvious the 27ER is by far the best missile. With that being said though you can still notch it relatively easily. Most of the 27ER slingers either don’t know how to or are not interested in any BVR tactics beyond point nose shoot missile. It’s not uncommon for me in a 15/16 to slam Mig29s and Su27s at 30 km+ simply because they didn’t bother to crank. Plus going cold and spamming chaff is a very valid strategy for either straight up trashing a 27ER or at the very least bleeding it of energy

Imagine that, a missile bus with 4-6 of the best SAHR missiles in the game and 4-6 of the second best heat seekers gets obliterated by an actual air superiority fighter? Impossible

If people want any semblance of ‘balance’ in top tier, even for the future - we NEED to do something about multipathing. Unless you guys want unrealistic flight models that have no character ‘for balance’ then I suggest people get real comfortable with certain nations dominating others as long as you’re able to completely nullify any BVR/missile advantage by flying low and forcing a merge
