we already agreed that datalink is not exactly what im talking about but this thing works through datalink because they need to inform each other of the location of the said target
~40km range python 5 that has the best perk of any IR missile, the passive homing, is quite a nice missile to sneak a shot with if the enemy isn’t aware enough to realize what it is or that it’s coming. R-27ET is already a pain to deal with if there are any flankers making space launches with them. It’s just a IR derby with more drag and more pull. (Well honestly the Derby is a ARH Python with less drag and less pull)
Imagine that you find a target is TWS, and launch a R-27ET at it from 40KM distance, once it gets close it will activate its seeker. The advantage of the passive tracking and locking is extremely useful, especially since unlike a ARH missile the target will not get a lot warning for the missile going pitbull. Its just a highly useful advantage for future IR missiles.
