Made a video about the flying tigers just would like some feed back

Learning how to do this and would like some feed back on my video. I like P40’s so I chose the 1 AVG. I used some historical footage up front because I like history and wanted it to give some perspective. I also tried to demonstrate actual combat tactics. I know I have a couple of funky camera movements. Any other thoughts.

Thanks in advance.

Flying Tigers? That’s cool. Not as cool as track-less Tigers

That’s actually really funny glitch.

I really just looking for feed back. I’ve done some other videos just playing around with the editing software. I actually did this one for my dad who is a huge AVG fanboy. I was curious how I’m doing with the editing. I want to get better. I think think was great but I consider my self a biased source. If I could get some opinions it would be helpful. I know I’m no Mine Cod Man or anything like that not trying to be. Here is a scale if it helps

A) Brilliant
B) Right direction
C) I don’t do junk food.
D) Don’t quit your day job. (No worries, I love my job :)
F) OMG what have you done!

If you could tell me things that really caught your eye or where distracting or made you stop watching specifically I’d like to know. Thanks in advance.

Nice video in general :)

I would personally perhaps shorten the historical intro and move some of it towards the end perhaps? I feels a bit drawn out.

Lots of really nice camera angles!

There is a cut at 2:10 that feels very jarring, likely because the sound also cuts at the same time, a tip would be to draw out the audio from both clips so that they overlap (i.e. keep some more audio at the end of the first clip and start the audio of the next clip early and let them crossfade). The cut at 2:19 for example feel way smoother (both for visual and audio), likely because it is crossfaded in both video and audio but the audio could be crossfaded a bit more there as well.

I don’t know if you’re already doing it but the biggest tip for editing is to record audio and video on separate tracks, that way you get way more control over how you edit the cuts.

The camera shot at 2:45 is great!

The clip at 2:49-2:51 feels oddly placed, it feels like i’m watching the same thing twice when the next cut comes in.

The powerslide at 3:31 is just, * chef’s kiss * .

The cut at 3:44 feels jarring as well, especially since the clip just before it is so short. The entire sequence after feels the same, to many short clips that cut abruptly one after the other. The shot at 3:55 is really nice though! Same with the 4:17 clip, really nice!

But the clip just after that 4:17 clip at 4:25 is very jarring and i have basically no time to even take in what happened before the next clip starts. Its a nice shot, its just to fast and cuts in and out to fast in an odd place.

So in general a nice video with really nice clips and camera angles, the biggest downside is the short clips that jump cut a bit to fast and to often in some places. Don’t be afraid to slow down some of the shorter clips and leave some of the short cuts out (or move them to another place perhaps?). Like the 4:25 clip is really nice if you slow it down to like half the speed (and perhaps place it somewhere else as well?).

All of this is personal opinions though and others might disagree ^^

I really appreciate that feed back. one question just to be sure I understand. The bumpiness of song made me feel short clips where better. So I thought jarring would be good. Or are you saying the short clips were just to short to enjoy? and just hang them longer before bumps?

It absolutely can be, like at the start of the video from 1:10 . It very much makes sense to do it there but once out of that part of the song the rest of the song has a slower longer flow if that makes sense.

I see what you mean with the 4:25 clip as it matches with the music, what i think made it feel odd is that the clip feels placed there for that purpose alone, it doesn’t flow with the rest of the “story” or clips before and after it. Had the video smoothly flowed from like the loop at 4:00 where it then just switches angles at somewhere around 4:04-4:06 to the clip at 4:25 it would make more sense in both the flow of what is happening in the video as well as the cut in the music (and video) to the next set of clips. Currently it cuts sharply from a left turn to suddenly be at the top of a loop and then cuts suddenly again to something different again. (I hope i’m explaining it well x) )

The 3:44 clip mostly looks like a lag spike. Same with the 2:49 clip, the in-game audio comes directly with a sharp engine sound that stops almost immediately (the clip after seems to also be on screen but paused for half a second before playing during the crossfade?). The 2:10 one is just the in-game audio cutting so sharply that feels off.

So it’s kind of hard to pinpoint what i mean.

Its a really good video in general though! :) Mostly minor things that i would personally finetune. Some of which comes down to preference and might be liked better as is by others :P

Appreciate the detailed input. Thinking about making a battle of Britain one next or something about night fighters
