Mad dog in warthunder

A MADDOG missile is essentially where an AHR missile, or Fox 3, such as an aamram is fired without a lock on an enemy missile. This allows the onboard radar of the missile to seek a target and go pitbull on said aircraft. Why don’t we have this in warthunder with Aircraft, I am aware of the Japanese, I think, that can do this, but it is a SPAA. I believe we should get this in warthunder, but it would require a button to launch the missile as currently there is no way to fire a fox3 without a radar lock. What do yall think?

We used to have this on arma 3 and was disabled on most modded servers.

Buy cheap heli. Pylon spamram- D. Fire mad dog barrage across the map and Everyone dies. No thanks

That would be nice. Would allow firing of fox 3s from irst

Mad dog feature would be specially useful for SARHS with datalink. It would make the R-27ER even more OP and be very competitive even in top-tier lobbies.

I often do the lock-launch-unlock trick with it, but having the ability to launch those without even an half-second RWR warning would be quite dangerous.

If implemented properly, IFF would make the missile not go for teamates, but then again its warthunder.

For example lets take the superhornet, maddoging missiles is way less reliable and effective than using TWS and getting a lock. Maddogging at least in DCS can just be used as a way to make the enemy have to deal with something and not be able to keep pressure on you. It would allow for much more realism and “skillful” plays.

I do not think Fox1s can do Mad Dogging as it requires the missile to have a search radar as thats kind of the point.

thats because arma’s radar simulation was complete ass and the ARH missiles basically had wallhacks

Before radar tech caught up to rocket motor tech it was a well-known tactic to launch a missile before its seeker got a lock.

But that would mean the radar would eventually lock the target similar ingame to the 7Ps, Im saying the ability to shoot a fox3 without lock have it go in that direction and then if the radar finds an enemy it will guide the missile to said enemy without the aid of the planes radar. P.S this makes it sound super op, but it would drastically decrease the reliability of the missile if done like this.

They can sort of,

Wasn’t this removed off of the Tan-SAM Kai?
