Nothing directly that I can see, If I had a video of the issue (from both sight settings would be most useful) in the current client and a non-test drive I could write one up using the above as sufficient evidence, similarly for the M551 a twin could be made.
I’ll also make one to try and argue that the TOW 2B should also be impacted by the Tandem Penetration increase due to it’s second warhead (the same way there is an increase in performance is conferred for example to the -114K vs the -114B), which would bump the penetration by some quantity.
This one specifically for the -2B does exist, but hasn’t been actioned
1x from above doesn’t show as much drop due to perspective shift.
We know for a fact all TOW launched ATGMs are accurate in War Thunder with only a minor drop [if you use barrel sights your tests are invalid; you have to go into options and make sure it’s gunner sights being used].
I haven’t touched the M551 in a hot minute, but maybe I’ll get around to launching all ATGMs I currently have access to and see what happens.
They shouldn’t be any different though, they are more than capable of having pintle mounted MG’s aim properly, why would a parallax offset missile be any different in implementation?
Because the aiming system is from 2014 with no updates to it.
The game does not use dedicated beam modules for vehicles at this time.
This is why you can control missiles through the commander sight, and you could through the binos in the real old days until they fixed that issue.
Some missiles do genuinely drop. Others do have perspective shift - for example, Desert Warrior with the TOW-2, the missile isn’t really dropping per say, but rather the perspective is changing, it’s lining up with your gunners sights.
AFT09, ZT3A2, and the other boss-tier ATGM slingers are fine. tbh, I think this problem is being overstated. Unless we’re discussing the LOSAT (what a POS), I think ATGMs are in a really good place.
I’m still salty as hell over the LOSAT. It’s funny when it works - But the problem is, is that it hardly works. When a 163mm metal telephone pole slams into a tank at hypersonic speed that tank is absolutely fragged.
Yet Gaijin can’t code so it’s a dice roll on whether it even does damage at all on a pen.
It’s also not as capable as it’s supposed to be in general operation, and Gaijin keeps making smaller and smaller maps which make it even harder to try and use the LOSAT effectively in the niche’ it’s supposed to fill.
That map’s for the “WW2” BRs, and is honestly my fix since they incorrectly removed Port Novo from rotation.
That is the only map in War Thunder of its kind, and it annoys me.
All it’ll take is for the anti-diversity crowd to complain again that there’s a unique map with no equal, and I’ll be stuck fueling my flanking addiction and long-range gameplay with no breaks.
For good. Too many people complained during one of the feedback forms involving roadmaps.
I loved that map because it was the only map with zero flanking opportunities, so it was genuinely just a patience match on who could get enough advantage before capturing B.
It was a nice change of pace after 20+ matches of long range maps and closer range flanking maps.
Even good for M551. ;)
Yes, that is one of the 1 - 3 examples of existing maps being made smaller.
Sands of Sinai’s map borders were just shifted west enough to remove the CQC area from the map, added more open desert area because of that.
I constantly see people go A side on Sands of Sinai now whereas prior you never saw anyone go there cause everyone just wanted to play CQC in the upper area then get no frags since no one went A.
I’m fairly certain if the IRL TOW missile had this level of “drop”, it’d be regarded as a missile even worse than the infamous M47 Dragon ATGM. All this to set up for a TOW launch, and if you don’t have a great gunner it’ll fly into the dirt on first launch.
I assume gaijin thinks all ATGMs just have the same “soft launch” that the Javelin missile system uses, where it flies out of the tube with a ton of positive angle of attack and has a decent delay before main engine ignition.
Despite the fact that the sole SACLOS ATGM in the world with a soft launch system is ERYX (can be launched from a window without preparing the room), and it basically has zero drop at all.
Many including the TOW use a Kick motor to eject it from the tube and getting it to a safe distance before igniting the flight motor, since the motor may injure the gunner, and to help prevent the launch signature from immediately giving away the gunner, since high performance fuels leave smoke trails under normal conditions due to the presence of Aluminum in the propellant.
Also you could probably work out what the launch AoA / Net lift was from the figures provided in Table A-1., since there is a higher likely hood of a 18" drop at close range, which for vehicle launch is much less then the height to the launcher under normal conditions, even if behind cover.
