M48A2 C (Serious Question)

I just played a game in the described tank and I cant neutral steer??? Is this bug or apart of the game because i remembered it neutral steering when i first played it years ago.

Gaijin recently made a bunch of transmission changes to all tanks with CD-850 transmissions.

On tanks with the CD-850-4B and 5s (M48s and such), they decreased the final drive gear ratios but increased the selectable gear ratios to compensate.

But then they forgot to also increase the neutral gear ratio… making it have way too little power to actually turn the tracks.

Nope, to my knowledge the M48 Pattons never had any neutral steer. (Should have included “I may be wrong,” because now I’ve angered the almighty Italy_suffers 🤣)

At about 1:45 it appears that the tracks move independently, which would indicate neutral steering

Your knowledge is wrong.

Thanks for stating the obvious!

Clearly it wasn’t that obvious if you said it didn’t have it, innit.

Also, I think you might have confused me for Italy_Suffers? I’m not him, we just use the same icon.

Could have sworn he changed his name to something else, similar to yours, but not the same. Guess I just got confused.

He just hates @Italy_Suffers

So that’s why I couldn’t turn in my Magach 1 earlier…

Thanks for clearing this up Flip.

Just because why not, here’s the current transmission.

This is how the transmission was modeled before the update.

As you can see, the only changes happened to the “sideGearRatio” (it and the “mainGearRatio” effectively work together as a static final drive gear ratio) and the selectable ratios (which are in the “ratio” list). The decrease in the “sideGearRatio” is compensated by equal increase in the selectable gear ratios, but without the increase in the “neutralGearRatio”, this actually makes it so when you’re using neutral steering the tracks have less power than even the last gear ratio.

Effectively the neutral turning speed went from 3.6 km/h on each track to 68 km/h, and the higher the speed is, the less force that actually turns the tracks.

You see a lot of bug reports say that when neutral steering, the tank just “goes into -1 km/h reverse” or something. What is actually happening is that the tracks have so little power behind them that the tank slides down the closest incline.
