OP, you should title your suggestion a little more clearly. I thought this was a suggestion to propose the M17 Whizbang as a modification for all Shermans that used it in-game, but after I read it, it sounded like you are proposing it as a specific vehicle with it.
T40/M17 Whizbang was the launcher design and the name designated for this launcher, NOT the tank design nor the name of the vehicle equipped with the launcher; I want to clear up any misunderstandings here. If added in-game, it would be named just “Whizbang” or “M4 Sherman Whizbang,” or whatever. Just like the Sherman equipped with the T34 Calliope is named “Calliope” in-game.
Furthermore, do you have any credible sources on the launchers found to be mounted on the M4A3, M4A4, and M4A6, let alone Shermans armed with 76mm guns? I am very skeptical of this claim. Were you just throwing Sherman variants around without in-depth research?
The naming convention doesn’t always correctly translate into game. At the end the Devs decide what the name of this vehicle would be in game.
The wikipedia called the T34 as “T34 Callipope” so I just followed the same convention.
I wrote all my suggestions based on the sources I have posted.
If the War department techinical manual mentions about it. Im sure it’s a credible source.
now, whether they actually mounted is a different story.
the 76mm listed was my mistake for the M4A3. I just copied specs from the game,.
No, I mean… That’s the name of the launcher. The English version of Wikipedia describes it this way,
The Rocket Launcher T34 (Calliope) was a tank-mounted multiple rocket launcher used by the United States Army during World War II. The launcher was placed atop the M4 Sherman, with its prominent vertical side frames anchored to the turret’s sides, and fired a barrage of 4.5-inch (114 mm) M8 rockets from 60 launch tubes.
The 7.2-inch Multiple Rocket Launcher T40/M17 Whizbang (sometimes spelled Whiz-Bang or Whiz Bang) was a tank-mounted multiple rocket launcher used by the United States Army during World War II. The launcher was mounted atop 75mm variants of the M4 Sherman, and fired a barrage of 7.2 in (180 mm) rockets from 20 launch tubes.
whereas your suggestion refers to it as a tank design:
That is not correct. It is a launcher design. That’s my point. If it sounds like I’m nitpicking nomenclature, that’s not my intention. I just wanted to correct that statement.
Thank you. This is very interesting. I did not realize that provisions had already been made for those listed variants.
No issue. I appreciate your reply and your effort to keep your suggestion updated.
