I just went into my replays and was going to tell you which replays and times to check, but it appears replays won’t show my radar locks… so that sucks…
If I have time tomorrow (unlikely, I’ll be extremely busy this week with work I let pile up a bit too much) I will try to grab some screen recorded footage, gotta figure out how to do that though and remember haha.
I will practice what I preach and try to get footage to show it working for me. (I might end up being extremely busy up until Friday, so unless by some miracle I have free time tmrw, I might be grabbing my footage on Saturday). However if you’ll trust my word until then, I can assure you, it was working perfectly fine for me in the short time I used it;
In my personal experience with it the radar did jack in both the test drive and in-game.
In the test drive, it struggles to lock the IL-28 once it passes. In-match, it’s much the same.
Locks that are acquired as useless as well, as the effective range of the VADS is barely more than 1.5km. The ballistics indicator will not appear if the enemy is flying away from you at any discernible speed, and when they’re flying towards you they’re normally low enough to make acquisition impossible.
Then again… It’s a pulse-doppler track-only radar. Its primary use was on naval vessels. To stick an M61 on an M113 with the only radar lying around and expect it to work well is laughable.
Almost as laughable as the APG-66 on the M247…
You locked a MiG-15 going less than 500km/h… Unless you also have gameplay footage of a MiG-15 going <500km/h with a clear sky and at a distance of 1km, It’s meaningless.
Yes I know, I said I would try to get a screen recording when I can, for now I just have replays and that is a still image from the replay where I had a lock, yet it doesn’t show the lock in replays so I can’t prove it to you.
Thank you for showing me, it seems like there’s 2 possible problems,
1: the enemy is too far away, can’t tell ofc since the game won’t indicate it for you. So this is less likely to be the problem, but still a potential.
2: (I noticed you use alt as part of your keybind for locking the target) Using alt to get a lock, and thus not being able to continue moving your crosshair with the target.
If you could please try changing you key bind to a single button you can use while simultaneously moving your crosshair over the plane, and not stopping in front of the plane while using your keybinds, it might end up working. Don’t know for sure, but worth a shot don’t ya think? The way your trying to get a lock could be messing it up if what I said above is indeed true. If that doesn’t work out, then I’ll hop into a bunch more matches later and see if I can encounter this bug myself. Again, thanks for showing me, it helps a lot.
(Might also be a combination of the two possibly…)
I did indeed, but I’m still having no luck locking…
Even last match I just had a teammate fly into my stream of tracers… Like, from behind me, across the field, looking like they were bombing thier squadmate, just flew into my tracers and died to me…
Thanks for at least trying it out, really thought that might have worked. Guess I’ll have to test it out still this weekend. And also yeah, those kinda oblivious teammates suck, real pain when you’re the one with the repair bill…
(Also I might have an idea, genuinely interested to see if it’s a map error or user error, perhaps it’s only effecting certain people, by any chance would you be interested in hoping into a match with me some time this weekend if you have the chance? Perhaps we could narrow down the problem if it turns out that you can’t lock anything but I can just fine, both in the same match against the same aircraft)
This is still a problem. Can’t lock on to anything in a PVP or Assault match, but it works pretty well in the test drive. Lead with the indicator, attempt to lock and you get a VERY brief green reticle and then it disappears. Happens with props and jets, high and low altitude, both near and far.
I’d only JUST realized that the 163 had a working radar and tried it and found it works remarkably well in the test drive. Super disappointed that it does nothing in the actual game.
It’s nothing new mate, anyone who plays The US knows the m163 doesn’t lock onto shit. It’ll lock 100m below the target, not lock at all. It’s just shit.
OP just manual it without radar, it’s still usable in that way. The target guide barely works anyways. Just Kentucky windage the bitch and you’ll be alright
For all the people clowning on OP here, the issue isn’t that the M163 has an unrealistically bad radar system, it’s that there isn’t consistency between how well it locks in test drive vs matches, and the inconsistency suggests there’s an issue with it, not its poor multiplayer performance alone.
I just came here to see if I am the only one experiencing this, nice to see I am not insane. I can confirm that in multiplayer the radar is essentially useless. If that’s how bad it is to be then so be it, I just don’t for the life of me understand why Gaijin makes it actually work in test drive. It makes absolutely no sense.
Ok been a while since I checked back in, thank you very much to those who actually looked at the issue and tested stuff instead of dismissing it with “It sucked IRL!!” that’s unrelated to the issue we have here so leave room temp IQ outside please LOL.
At some point I’ll screen record the difference in a match vs in a test drive, if anyone else wants to do that too and submit it would be swell. Again, thanks to everyone who actually took a look and found the issue as well!
