they cannot lay bridges that sit on each other
First off, multi-span bridging exists in real life. the Leguan (Leopard 2 AVLB) and British Titan AVLB are literally engineered to lay overlapping, linked spans end-to-end to cross wide gaps without floating in mid-air.
Second, writing off support roles because ‘the enemy will shoot you’ applies to literally every non-meta vehicle in the game. An SPAA or light tank gets deleted by sabot just as fast. The difference is, opening an entirely new lane on maps with steep drops or blown corridors breaks the predictable gridlock and lets your team bypass sightlines they’ve been pre-aiming all match. Just because you only play hull-down corridor peek-a-boo doesn’t mean engineering vehicles have zero tactical value.

the bridge layer drops Span #1 over the first portion of the gap.

Youre the one who keeps claiming that bridge over the chasm between right spawns on Karelia can be bridged with AVLB because “they will just link bridges” without explaining how are they gonna keep the bridges suspended in air.
