Location Improvements for Advance to the Rhine, Sinai and Jungle!

Today we’re taking a look at the visually updated Advance to the Rhine, Sinai and improved Jungle that will be coming in the Hornet’s Sting major update!

Advance to the Rhine

The war has now reached the right bank of the Rhine. The ancient city here has survived a series of air raids and now its cobblestone streets with the ruins of buildings and the ghosts of abandoned trams have become a real battlefield.

We’ve updated the graphics for one of the most popular city locations in War Thunder! Our artists have replaced the building models and completely updated the textures on this location, all while preserving the navigation, capture points and cover locations familiar among players. Advance to the Rhine has received many decorative elements in the design of the streets for greater historical authenticity, and the vegetation has been updated and adjusted.

Sinai

We now move on from Western Europe to the Sinai Peninsula on the border of the continents of Asia and Africa. In the missions on this location, we’ve carried out a major graphical update to the environment. The color shades of sand and rocks have changed, small stones on passages will no longer obstruct the movement of armored vehicles, and the sand dunes look more natural.

The look of the roads has changed both for the sandy part and for the cluster of rocks. A small amount of architecture has changed, with some houses in the villages replaced with more authentic white-walled ones. A railway and telegraph line have been added between the main combat areas and the water channel. Vegetation, rock formations and landforms have been added to the combat area and outside of it in the desert.

Jungle

From the dry sands of the desert, we move to the beautiful tropical jungles of the Solomon Islands! Meet the new Jungle, where in addition to visual improvements, we’ve made several important changes to gameplay. This location has received updated vegetation in the form of palm trees, bushes, and the terrain now looks more natural. Small villages have been built in different parts of the location, which liven up the appearance of the combat area for ground vehicles.

The river that flows through the entire location can now be crossed at any place without the risk of drowning. The map designers have made it so that it’s impossible to climb the mountain in square B1, as it was previously possible to shoot from it through to all capture points. Plus, the positions in squares E4 and E5 have been closed off.

I hope this fix somehow the spawncamp issue, and that they dont mess up with the best battle positions between teams.

so, can those trams made from cardboard paper still completely stop long rod APFSDS round with 500mm+ penetration?

I think so, but idk, maybe thats been fixed.

So was the whole Sinai updated or just the upper map?

Is it still possible to swim to the islands? Because that was a cool way to use amphibious vehicles

The visual difference these map upgrades make is ENORMOUS, as well as the vehicle model remasters. The practical improvements are also very welcome.

Glad to see more of these, and hope we will be getting more vehicles too!

For example, we only got 1 KV and 1 T-34 family members remastered. It would be neat if all or most family members got such reworks as well!

Loved the addition of the German flag, may be a nice detail, and in the future, Berlin also getting a more revamped appearence, with more historical aspects.

Yeah, the wording is definitely mixed, but I assume they mean the removal of those atrocious camping spots in Jungle. The core gameplay (map layout, main throughfares and cover spots) remain the same, at least when looking at the spots we can see in these snapshots.

It’s not mixed, it’s blatant lie, as usual. Remember radar on F-5AG?

That one never had any radar IRL, so they changed it.

This looks really good! However, trams are looking way too clean and they stand out too much from the full picture. Can this be adjusted to fit theme of ruined city?

That depends, you can find pictures where the trams are completely fine:

Spoiler

Or where they were bombed as well (but I won’t share that here, obviously).

Both would make sense. It’s an artistic choice really.

Palm hitboxes fixed? Would be awesome if it was - especially for air maps.

I just hope they optimize the maps, because lately I’m having senseless FPS drops depending on the map.

Try lowering the “Terrain displacement quality” setting! It’s been broken ever since DX12 was implemented and it leads to EXTREME FPS drops

Ok, thanks. I’ll try it to see if it works for me, although I think I already had these strange drops before this last update, depending on which maps I was on, it was stable at 165 FPS, in others it suddenly had occasional drops during the game, and in other maps it stayed at 140 or 128 FPS, and even in some maps when I was stopped in an area it stayed at a fixed 91 FPS, when the maximum I have is 165.

Why is there a Volkswagen in a ww2 map, they never reached the civilian market at all until after the war. the map update looks bloody incredible but the VW is an anachronism
