Still, thats what makes me scratch my head the most.
There is no counterplay IRL beyond not being detected in the first place and APS for ground vehicles being fired upon by MW AGM/ATGMs.
That and the bit from the devblog stating that these missiles would be terrible at close range and prone to friendly fire omits the entire selling point of the likes of the Longbow system for the AH-64s. It was purpose built to be used in congested battlespace, with the 114L flat out having a blueforce tracking link built into it to avoid friendly fire situations. There is no reason the brimstone should not have such either.
In the end, everything within the dev post to me is either a pipe dream or just misinformed.
The KH38 with a range of more than 12km is “balanced” against air defense systems with a range of less than 12KM. LOAL’s Brimstone and AGM114L are “unbalanced”. I think this is very “fair”.
Brimstone should have FnF if the radar is too much at least making it IR as placeholder but for Brimstone should be able to switch to laser anytime but overall, yeah it should have FnF
The tornado is a flying bath tub, FnF is almost mandatory when you’ll have S1 camping airspawn with impunity, or any fox 3 plane that will close the distance.
Absolutely should be recieving IR guidance or tv guidance, if theyre not fire and forget then its useless compared to the gr1 consdering its a lower br and gets the same amount of pgms, why on earth would i use a laser guided munition than fire and forget lol
Just got out a game with the GR.1. Hit the enemy flank with gr.1 equipped with PGM, and Pantsir are not paying attention. Launch all my Pgm’s and pantsir systematically begins to shoot all my PGM’s out the sky. Brimestone needs IR / FnF or GR4 is dead on arrival.
Yes +1. FnF IR seeker for Brimstones should of been a no brainer for the Dev’s in the first place. Belittling them and British players to Laser guidance on such an airframe at Pantsir S1 tier is just absolutely taking the pi** mate.
Those weapons do not operate using a Millimetre Wave Radar seeker-head like the Brimstone and the AGM-114L. The Brimstone originally was designed to be able to have a true LOAL capability, in the sense that it can be fired without any targeting information, and such data can be determined autonomously using the onboard MMW Radar. (Think of the Maddog mode of an AMRAAM)
Effectively, the Tornado GR.4 in game would be able to carry 12 Brimstones, and fire them all off at one time, and all 12 missiles would independently target enemy tanks (earlier Brimstones did not have IFF protections, so friendly vehicles are also in danger) with zero input from the Pilot.
This is obviously insane… but the Semi-Active Laser mode that is found on the Dual-Mode Brimstone turns it into an AGM-114K… where it requires a constant laser, and therefore the pilot cannot engage more than one target at one time.
Why can’t we get 2 versions of the Brimstone missile? 1 that can be used in ground matches which is SAL limited (or with basic FnF), and one which is the Brimstones at it’s full capability.
Have 2 versions of the missile and then once there are counters to it which the Devs decide is enough then the air version can simply be allowed to bring.
As an air sim player I was really looking forward to the Brimstones to be able to take out convoys and other AI targets with ease. But instead now I could maybe get 2 off if I’m lucky and try to hit the SPAA’s before they simply delete me from the game.
