Lightly armored ground vehicles

I think I’ve finally figured out why Gaijin likes adding lightly armored ground vehicles. Apparently, around 56% of players play Ground RB and 16% play AB (take those numbers with a grain of salt).

Ground RB is basically “hide-and-seek” mode. Armor matters a lot less when most deaths come from someone you never even saw shooting you in the side or rear. Thick frontal armor won’t help you there.

What do you guys think?

I’m lost are you saying they add light vehicles because people don’t get upset dying to them?

No, I mean armor matters less in RB when you get shot in the side or rear by someone you haven’t spotted. That makes lightly armored vehicles more viable.

Yes, you’re right that armor is a last resort. Benefits most light tanks are usually a glass cannon with very high mobility and good fire rate. I don’t think that’s why Gajin likes adding them personally I think most BRs can be filled with a light tank to give it a better lineup most times.

Light fast vehicles are popular because… they are fast, people like to stay moving so that revenge CAS doesnt catch you as often and so that what few flanking paths are left in the game can be used before anyone else can.

not really, there is plenty of vehicles which work best by distracting enemies and shrugging off hits, Churchill VII was great at that before it got moved to the same BR as a panther. Tiger 2 and american T34 do this very well too.

This isnt Holdfast, we arent doing line battles in a napoleonic war simcade (Great game btw). you can get flanked and spanked. Its on you if you dont keep an eye out for that.

I’m not saying RB is bad. I play it too, but I usually stick to light vehicles. I spend a lot of time flying scout drones and focus on staying hidden, with less pushing and more ambushes and defensive play. In AB, I use heavily armored vehicles and play more aggressively.

I use a lot of light tanks but also love a heavy tank if the match requires a big gun and armour. Depends on what playstyle you prefer more than anything

Arcade vs Realistic Ground Battles

Ground RB is much more focused on ambushes, information gaps, positioning, and catching the enemy before they catch you.

Ground AB is much more focused on direct engagements, reaction speed, sustained fighting, and making full use of your vehicle’s performance.

1. RB satisfies the “hunter” instinct, while AB feels more like an arena.
In RB, a lot of the satisfaction comes from finding the enemy first, choosing the right position, waiting for the right moment, and attacking before they even know you are there.

2. AB is closer to a tank combat arena.
Both sides usually know roughly where the enemy is, so combat becomes much more direct. You rely more on aiming, reactions, positioning during the fight, armor, firepower, mobility, and your ability to win an actual engagement.

3. RB strongly favors light and mobile vehicles.
Without constant enemy markers, light tanks and fast vehicles can flank, hide, relocate, and attack from unexpected directions much more effectively.

4. RB reduces the importance of armor.
Armor still matters, but it becomes more of a safety net than your main advantage. If the enemy sees you first, shoots your side, or attacks from an unexpected angle, even a heavily armored tank may die before its armor really matters.

5. It is almost like “knights vs assassins.”
Some players enjoy direct, face-to-face fighting — more like knights.
Others enjoy hiding, flanking, waiting, and striking from an advantage — more like hunters or assassins.

6. The satisfaction comes from different things.
RB players often enjoy the feeling of hunting through information advantage.
AB players often enjoy the feeling of power that comes from armor, firepower, mobility, and direct combat.

7. Humans naturally enjoy the reward of discovering something first.
Spotting an enemy that has not noticed you yet creates a strong sense of achievement. That is probably one of the reasons RB appeals to so many players.

8. RB players often enjoy:

  • Planning
  • Waiting
  • Ambushing
  • Information advantage
  • Sniping

The feeling is basically:

“I am the hunter.”

9. AB players often enjoy:

  • Immediate feedback
  • Direct confrontation
  • Trading fire
  • Vehicle performance
  • Armor and firepower

The feeling is more like:

“I am the knight.”

The biggest difference, in my opinion, is this:

In AB, you usually win by fighting the enemy better.
In RB, you often win the fight before it even begins, simply by seeing the enemy first.
