Light boats are broken because of waves

Hello.

There are plenty of balancing issues in Naval, but surprisingly no one mentions this one particular issue. It’s that light boats, such as those available in the early Soviet tree, are straight up unplayable when put against stable firing platforms weighing 100+ tons

The problem is that the waves in the maps are just too extreme. Your guns swing between looking down to looking at 8km.

These boats also have no fighting chance against the higher tier, way more stable platforms, easily shattered at long range. Want to send down a 76mm shell to at least do some damage? Well no you can’t even do this!

Most maps need to have way lower waves. This not only improves the QOL of coastal gameplay but also the balancing.

Alright one point I agree on from yourself.

Yeah ever since I forget the bloody update back in like 2019 that changed wave action, all riverine & limited coastal warships have been near impossible to play unless you get the rare flat conditions maps but even then your chances of surviving is probably squat if your luck is as bad as mine…

A QoL change would be to model water to be calm in sheltered waterways & fjords while open water is the choppy current.

That or we get maps made purely for riverine vessels like they were originally planning to do back in early CBT, as I still remember the old dev blogs that showed a map set on a small lake iirc.

Another niche option is to integrate riverine vessels into GF for maps like eastern europe, sun city, vietnam which would add a challenge to both surface types & be a deterrent to aircraft (AI gunners off & new aiming UI’s).
