Less FPS and drops

I’m tired of seeing minimal visual improvements, mainly effects improvements, which only affect you when they happen.
I play with DX12, with a Ryzen 5 5600X and an RX6700XT. I have Vsync activated with my 165Hz monitor, so the FPS are locked at 165, which is the number I was playing with until about four updates ago. I also reported those problems of continuous FPS drops a few months ago, the report is accepted, but nothing more.

I know it’s complicated, which is why I’ve been asking for a while now for the devs to take their time with updates, to fix them properly, and even to have updates that only focus on fixing things, without adding any vehicles.

Good to see I’m not the only one. Loading times have increased as well and the new updated maps lag so bad just like attica.

Same here since the update. Occasional big stutters of 1 to 2 seconds and some small ones. Interestingly, the FPS counter hasn’t dropped (around 150fps). Happens in air and ground.

Maybe its time to make War Thunder 2 with unreal engine

My poor RTX2050 is asking for help, it happened after all the updates and then it got better, but these new maps don’t help the situation

If anyone here is on PS5/PSN and has any suggestions for this guy, please post over here on his thread. Looks like he is still having issues: Game doesnt want to reinstall

I had it at minimum even before the update, stutters or fps drops were happening before the update but now it’s even worse.
drops/stutters happen on “revamped maps” or when there are a lot of dead tanks around with “new effects”, I play on everything low except texture resolution which is on high, doesn’t matter what settings really.

Same here. Random stutters and frame drops. Game ran flawlessly before the update. Yet another update and another mess. I play the game on 1440p, 120fps, with an RTX 4070 and 14600kf, medium to high settings, no Ray Tracing, vsync, gsync on so no tearing. My rig is more than capable of handling the game at these settings, at least it used to be. What’s going on?

my specs are ryzen 5 5600x, 16gb 3600mhz RAM and rtx 3060ti which I think should be more than enough for war thunder…game is also running on m2 drive.

Your specs are enough for 1080-1440p in low settings for sure. It is Gaijin rushing to release half-baked planes in the update that is full of bugs YET AGAIN!

Warthunder has a big VRAM leak which could explain that (fps drop when looking at certain spots like dead tanks)

Just asking but if you relaunch the game (and the pc, don’t open any other apps than WT) and try to play a custom with bots on these “reworked maps” does the problem persist?
If it works fine after that play some normal games with real player and if performance gets worse over time, the problem might be due to a VRAM swap (along with the slower system RAM)
And of course, what’s your GPU?

I had the same problem as all of you after each update (which remained on attica), but 1 month ago I installed a new GPU with way more VRAM and no more problem, even after the update 0 drop, 0 stutter.

The only way to “fix” it (I will not ask you to buy a new GPU haha don’t worry) is by having the less possible background apps when playing the game, you can also lower the texture quality to medium, disabling NVIDIA overlay and filters in NVIDIA app if you have an NVIDIA GPU, try using upscaler like FSR 4 or DLSS 4 quality (use the sharpening slider in game or it will looks blurry)…

I really hope that Gaijin will work on this since the vast majority of people in 2025 still have 8 GB GPUs… And the fact that this game uses more VRAM than triple-A games is pretty concerning…

trust me, I have tried everything. Restarting the game, pc, running only war thunder and no background programs, doesn’t help.
Stutters/drops don’t happen in custom battle with bots even on reworked maps

it happens from the start, doesn’t get worse over time

rtx 3060ti, yes 8gb of ram, I noticed this game has some sort of memory leak as I already tried to play with low/medium textures and at the start it used less than 4gb but after few matches it was at 8gb of VRAM usage

Tried everything you mentioned in your post before.
What gpu do you have?

The problem is also persistent on my Xbox Series X, so not just PC

This curent poblem is not about VRAM at all though. People here has the same components as they had before and now they start to have problems. As to me for example, I have optimized my PC into a detail using aerotweak to shut down any bloatware windows has to offer. I also use processor lasso to make WT work only on the performance cores on my CPU while unimportant apps work on e-cores. About the VRAM, i monitor with HWinfo when i have problems to diagnose the problem and with my settings (couple of msgs above you), I only use around 70% of my 12gb VRAM. While the game might have an optimization issue in general, what people are experiencing right now is not about that I believe. Or even so, it simply started after the latest update.

I have a 9070 XT, and the VRAM leak seems to stop at around 9GB of VRAM (1440p full max settings, no RT)

Funny thing is that if you’re telling me that the performance drop only occurs when playing in multiplayer the anti-cheat might be the problem (I know it’s not EAC anymore but I had this kind of issue after an update around a year ago with some other people) and I had to “reinstall” the anti-cheat to fix these drops and stutter

At this point, it might be a lot of things…
And probably a dumb question but have you tried to clear the game cache ??

multiple times, even reinstalled whole game and reset windows just because of this

You’re probably right, what makes me think of it was that he had drops only when looking at some directions which is occurring most of the time when the VRAM is maxed out

yeah that’s probably a general issue with the game and we know has many…

I see your points, and good ideas, but I have a 3090 Ti with 24 Gigs of VRAM aaaaaaaand I’m having stuttering after this update lol. Even when I don’t run anything in the background 😂 Am using DX12 too:

Oh, and 32 Gigs of DDR5 + i9-12900KS fwiw:
(And everything running on M.2 drive)

Yeah ofc with these system specs VRAM has nothing to deal with it 😭, I’m also having some little stutters since yesterday (DX12) they probably just broke something idk
(But I’m not having performance drops it’s just less stable than before)
