This was an exception iirc (someone can correct me if im wrong) since Japan totally lacked 4th Gen options besides the F-2 which was deemed too advanced.
The Ho-Ris in game are nothing like the conceptual ones.
This has always been the case, hence why some nations have models of Sidewinders and Sparrows they never used (eg Taiwan who has 9Ls on the F-16AM, but IRL only used 9Ps and 9Ms)
The only one I think that needs clarification is the F-15IA (which has an explanation but I think should be expanded upon) and the F-16AJ (since it still gets brought up to this day).

For the 2A8NL we do know though. The Dutch MoD has stated it is ordering it with the offer from Germany with only having small changes such as radio and communications equipment. They stated explicitly that this is for interoperability, reduced order cost and better logistics for spare parts, etc.
Which also makes sense since our 2A8s will likely be permanently stationed in Germany.
imo Italy isn’t in need of a subtree, its own subtrees should be expanded instead of just adding another subtree. Its like the “just one more lane” idea for traffic.
