Maybe you could argue 2A8HV (I don’t know if that would be the name but the one for Croatia) for Italy. It’s close and is a similar thing to Romania and Hungary. Though Istria could pose a problem.
Or we just wait for goated IMBT (prefer)
2A8NL, I’d prefer Leclerc Evolution and XLR and for Sweden we have 2A8NO for now. I think Strv 123A could beneficial as another tank to give a stronger line up. 123B is too hard to say it’s final form
I’m not saying this because I want to see the 2A8NL this update, it comes when it comes, but anyone with at least 2 braincells will be able to make the incredibly save assumption about the 2A8NLs configuration.
It will just be a German 2A8 with some radio/communication equipment swapped out for Dutch equivalent equipment.
Yeah probably MG and some command and control systems is likely the only differences, at least that is what the letter from our (at the time) ministry of defense to other parts of our government outlined in 2024:
“De productie wordt beperkt tot één variant: de Leopard-2A8. Voor de meeste
afnemende landen is de tank identiek – dus zonder specifieke eisen per land - met als enige
uitzondering de voorzieningen voor nationale middelen voor commandovoering (command &
control).”
Rough translation using google:
“Production is limited to a single variant: the Leopard 2A8. For most purchasing nations, the tank is identical - meaning there are no country-specific requirements - with the sole exception of provisions for national command-and-control systems.”
Besides this there are other reasons why we would want our 2A8s to be as similar to the German one as possible, since they will be integrated into the German army along with our other ground forces and the tanks will be stationed in Germany permanently according to the letter.
You say that, but in the mean time half the guys here want to argue german one comes with the LDRCIM as well in the final version.
The dutch one could come with the rcws a well, i do not think why this shouldnt be possible
Sweden has seperate procurement of their 123Bs and Norway I’m unsure about.
If you google it, it says norway participates in the Leopard 2A8 procurement initiative, but they aren’t listed as a participant by our government.
Pretty much, we are buying our 2A8s through Germany. So are Czechia and Lithuania.
here is the thing, norway didnt need to be invited, thats the issue.
Norway was already in the process of purchasing a 2a7, they even wanted an aps system as well if i understood it right, we mid process of norways procurement basicaly jumped in initiated the 2a8 as a name and started it. Thats why norways production was so fast as well, they basicaly ordered the 2a8, before germany did.
Sweden is the big question mark here, since it seems to turn out as a 2a7V and not a 2a8
Which is also why Norway has their seperste 2A8NO variant while all the other nations tagging along with Germany will only go for a highly standardized normal 2A8.
So like I said, so it’s an incredibly ssve assumption to make that the Dutch 2A8 will be identical to the German one. Hell it’s so save that it’s borderline not even a full assumption anymore.
generaly i dont like assumptions like that until it actualy happens.
Most of the 2a8 and its production is modular and would hold under the tagging along, but even sth like the rcws, is modulary possible and wont make to much difference if the customer then pays the extra
Yeah, would be awesome if Gaijin focused on Italian lower tiers, while we are waiting for the arrival of new tanks/planes irl.
There are so many Italian props missing, it’s just criminal.
