Interesting. It turns out that the resolution of thermal imagers in the game does not correspond to reality. And this was done, as always in this game, to buff the USSR
I never cease to be amazed at how unrealistic this game is while trying to seem like it

I had the oppertunity today to speak with a german tanker on the 2A7V. He claimed that a good loader can load the rounds in about 3 seconds. This will prolly not be implemented in the game but it would be nice to see a reload buff on the Leos

Also the Leo 2A7V is capable of speed of 70+ km/h (currently 62 in game)

This is probably ungoverned up to 3200rpm.

Now try that while on the move lol

They can load on the move at speeds of up to 40 km/h, it gets more complicated above those speeds but it’s still possible specially when the loaders has very convenient support points

Sure, carefully and slowly if you’re on the move but not as fast as if you’re stationary. Lets also remember that half of war thunder’s maps are bumpy as hell
Realistic reload times would be nice though. Hit a tree while reloading? Loader got knocked over with his shell and has to deal with concussion

The loaders has various soft support points and Even a metal spot where he can support his arm to load they don’t really need to do it carefuly and slowly it’s just more complicated, that’s it

Those support points won’t help much if you drive into a bump though. The front of your shell will dip regardless and you will have to recenter it, assuming you didn’t drop the shell. They can’t save you from everything even though they are helpful

Well, that’s why the tank suspension is so good it’s gonna help with bumps, and if you mean hilly terrain at relatively high speeds, well that’s obviously gonna slow the loader down but not too much, the loader is not gonna fly away from the spot, but this also dependa on loader skill for example, a non experienced loader would be slowed significantly but an experienced one wont

What it can eliminate is driving over a rock or something similar, but the whole tank is going to move up/down when you drive over a real bump, the suspension can’t help much with that. It only softens the contact to a degree. And you very much might fall down if you have a shell in your hands and the tank drives fast into a bump the way we do it in war thunder lol. No loader can defeat gravity regardless of experience. Smart one wouldn’t load their tank while knowing that there will be a bump.

Reload is a blance factor, gaijn has said so (even on autoloaders to a degree, look at thinfs like the type 90/10 or the object 906. As well as manual reloads are affected by things like crew fatigue, round weight (they can be quiet diffent), driving speed, terrain ect. Most good loaders especially if they’re prepped ahead of time ans still can slam through rounds. But the game isn’t trying to represent an ideal position, its truing to give an estimation of reload for any battlefield condition or situation, as well as account for balance.

The current 120 speeds are fine for the game, a whole second faster than the T72 and half a second faster than the T80 (who give it up for the soviet desifn reducinf size ans increasing armor, but have fewer crew), but slower than fast western cassette autoloader (who give up protection and a crew member for their increased firepower)

Fhe only acfual problem child in this relationship are the 120 M1s who are inexplicably 5s in a poor attempt to deal with a balnce issue

it depends quite frankly, tank is not gonna go flying reallistically and the suspension of tanks can handle those bumps pretty well, harder stuff like hills or pretty big obstacles are gonna make the loader slow down and it could very well happen while he is loading, he’s just gotta be ready for it in case it comes, but this normally is not gonna make him flung against a wall with the ammunition he’s just gonna move a bit around pretty hard and that’s it, the support points are good enough to hold without hands and not fall into the hull ammo rack head on in case there is a heavy bump

M1 abrams can indeed reach an average of 5 second mid battle, just that this wasnt modeled for balance reasons until recently, generally bustle autoloaders are less protected than carousel autoloader but the main decision of this wasnt only because of blowout pannels but aswell because NATO ammunition is straight it has no separation between charge and shell

yeah I just mean in a game balance sense. I know all the manual loaders (and hell most of the autoloaders) can run faster, but the way it is now works quite well

not the 80% transmission energy redirected to the type 10’s autoloader…that thing its so stupid

Of course if someone jumps over that at more than 30km/h they might wanna hold onto whatever they want but nobody it’s gonna reallisticaly do that in middle of the battlefield
