With the “Hornet’s Sting” update released on 18 March 2025 all Leopard 2 and Abrams tanks got a new feature publicly known as a “turret basket”, it was mainly a part of internal modules modelling rework that was later announced in the roadmap.
from Hornet’s Sting changelog
Turret baskets were added almost a year ago, with a promise of similar features coming also to MBTs such as Leclerc, Type 10/TKX, Ariete, Challenger
Almost a year passed and we’re still left with what has been done on that day. Every other top tier MBT lacks turret baskets which is a significant advantage, because you can still effectively shoot back even when you got hit, which is not a thing in Leopard 2 and Abrams, where almost every shot means disabled turret horizontal drive, which makes playing these tanks much more unpleasant.
Not even mentioning the change has been done very badly, because Vickers Mk.7 for example still doesn’t have a turret basket, but a paper thin turret ring.
And of course, for Russian MBTs they just added the autoloader module which works even better than fuel tanks and spall liners to stop the spall and they just called it a day.
This issue needs to be adressed, because so much time have passed and we didn’t get any information about further implementation of internal modules (including turret baskets).
Yes, it sucks
Yes, many people have addressed this problem
No, gaijin will never implement this cuz it’ll decrease stalinium or smth like that. Most turret basket posts have gone ignored for a while
Rather than adding it to the other nations they should just remove it from the ones its on, nobody really cares for these things as they kind of cause unrealistic amounts of damage and allow pretty much any shot regardless of how badly aimed it was to basically knock a tank out of the fight.
they shouldn’t add the modules until they are ready for all nations not just a couple.
also don’t forget about the hydraulic pump they also added to leos.
