Looks like a 2.5km rangefinder to me.
It doesn’t have to be LRF to be effective.
Especially since 9.0 was heavily decompressed and the Leopard 1 no longer faces most of what was 8.7 and 9.0 in the past.

Me looking at 8.0 t54 xD
Mobility, 105L7, and good enough armour to absorb stuff. Maybe a decompression for 9.0 matches but it’s not going down
btw even that is not needed in our tiny little map
the same one every nato mbt in this br range gets
you’re describing the AMX-30, the leo has great apds for the BR to use (though not as good as the apds on the m60aos)
The Leopard 1 is only iconic because it was produced and used in relatively large numbers by several nations. However, being ‘iconic’ does not necessarily mean that it was or has to be good. Historically speaking, the Leopard 1 was pretty underwhelming and undertiered when you consider the date of its introduction. The same applies to the A1A1 and 1A5 variants. There’s only so much you can do to make a bad tank competitive.
It is one of the worst 8.0s. Terrible armour, average firepower, underwhelming mobility that’s not nearly as good as people make it out to be. And it doesn’t help that the directly upgraded 1A2 and OF-40 ade the same BR, or that Britian gets basically the exact same vehicle but stabilized in the Vickers.
But can it go to 7.7? Not really. The firepower would be simply too strong to face 6.7s.
The Leopard 1 would be in a much better position if it just had some support in uptiers. Germany is one of only two nations without a stabilized TT MBT below 9.0, and that 9.0 is the A1A1 which is actually overtiered. If there was simply a decent, stabilized, 8.3 MBT like the Leopard 1A3 the Leopard 1 wouldn’t feel quite as bad.
any lower it basically gonna face WW2 tank. You got some 350+mm of APDS pentraction which is great for it BR. You just gotta learn how to play it properly. There are even worse tank then the Leo 1 at it own BR.
Tell me how this tank is also equal to the is 6 at 7.7 and fair for 6.7s to face
Test driving it, it is quite mobile and the gun handling isn’t that bad even at high speeds. This thing seems pretty alright for an 8.0. HEAT-FS is high velocity and good pen, apds seems completely adequate for the rating, not really sure where the issue is. Armour isn’t really all that important at the rating, as the guns tend to eclipse even the well armoured options, in my experience.
Wish most of my 8.0 lines had kit this nice 😿
They have same gun L7 105mm
The MK10 has the L7. the Mk3 has the 84mm.
The title of this topic is correct. The Leo1 is suffering.
But how much of that is the vehicle, and how much is the typical German main using it, idk.
Doesn’t help that there are vehicles like the Falcon that make the Leo its bi***.
You answered your question. Its the Falcon, the russian ZSU-57 with rapid fire APHE and a plethora of other small and fast tincans. Brrrp brrrp … This tank has neither protection nor outstanding speed nor firepower. Gunhandling ist also meh. Brrrp Brrrp.
It was better as larger maps cycled more often and hills / flanks weren’t nerfed or got simple offmap timers added. Nowadays maps are either tiny straight away or line of sights are nerfed in a way that there’s no espcape from brrrp brrrp. You just don’t get the range to make it work, instead you’re funneled into close combat chokepoints. Add tanks with stabilizer or efficient armor to this and you get an idea.
Indeed. It’s why I never use it. It requires a campy snipy playstyle. Any attempt at using it as some frontline tank will see it quickly deleted by the numerous autocannon spammers at those BR.
Indeed, Falcons with these armor piercing horror belts are toxic for early MBT gameplay.
Its not even a real service unit. Just a single prototype existed and this thing is ruining the whole early MBT gameplay. Its one of these additions where I lose my belief in WT devs. Why did they decide to ruin their own game around this BR bracket? Just because of this single unit prototype which hardcounters all existing service gen1 MBTs and IFVs? Gamefun removal tool = Falcon. They could have at least limited the AP shells like they did with all Gepard derivatives. But even after years of lol killing, Falcons still have a continuous belt containing high pen shells.
Map sizes and average line of sight make them undefeatable. brrrp. Leopard 1 teams vs. russian ZSU or Falcon ones are DOA.
The Falcon could fill the gap between the British SPAAs, which is between 5.3 and 8.3, and could easily be a 6.7 or 7.0, but the developers had to give it APDS that I never used and that absurd Br. They should remove the APDS and leave it at Br 7.0 as a pure SPAA.
The Leopard 1 is a tank for quickly reaching a point on a map and staying put for most of the match. If you go on the assault with the Leopard 1, you’re in trouble due to the lack of stabilizer, which is why it should be used with more patience than other tanks. The Falcon could fill the gap between the British SPAAs, which is between 5.3 and 8.3, being perfectly fine a 6.7 or 7.0, but the developers had to give it APDS that I never used and that absurd Br. The Leopard 1 is a tank to quickly reach a point on a map and not move for almost the entire game. If you go to the assault with the Leopard 1, you’re in trouble due to the lack of stabilizer, which is why it should be used with more patience than others. Aside from that, small maps and CQC also don’t help the Leopard 1 and all similar designs, which were based on being quick to reach a point and then defending from that position, retreating, taking another position, and doing the same thing again.
30 hispano at 7.0? That’s pure slaughter…
Without APDS. We have an M53/59 with twin 30mm in 6.3, with APCR with 90mm penetration and great effectiveness as a SPAA. The Falcon would have the advantage of not having the problem of the front cabin and little else.
80/40deg vs 34/28deg horizontal/vertical traverse?
Whole chain vs 50 per mag?
Nah not comparable. Think about how zsu234m2 does, and upgrade to the 30mm’s trajectory. Oh our Falcon even have mobility, frontal guidance and that SAP with nuke afterpen!
That’s why the M53/59 is 6.3, and the Falcon could be 7.0 or 7.3.
