Hello! I had the same problem. Launcher started the day before, but not the next day! Deleting Warthunder (Linux Mint) and downloading the latest launcher (wt_launcher_linux_1.0.3.31) does not solve the problem. The WT launcher won’t start! I found an older version (wt_launcher_linux_0.9.4.92) on my hard drive. The WT launcher starts with this version. Now I’m downloading the game…
Can you send me the old verson. The new verson has a bug.
Hello. The launcher using X11 does not work. I was able to get it working using Wayland or Xwayland.
You should find an older version of the launcher in your game directory, in /update/bak
Backup the launcher and launcherr.dat files that are in this sub-directory.
Then put them in the game directory (replace the newest ones) and try.
If it works the game will be updated.
Then you can execute the game from /linux64/aces
You may have to do this copy every time you want to update the game, because the launcher will update itself automatically.
heres the 1.0.3.26 I 've been using, any older one besides really close to it seems to be fine wt_launcherfiles_1_0_3_26.zip — Yandex Disk (just copy launcher and launcherr.dat over)
I’ve also tried with a single display setup on the main system today and couldnt get it to work that way either, remains a mystery why but I assume you guys changed something in the launcher where it makes the XRRGetOutputInfo call.
from what I see online this might happen with empty display parameter in the call, you guys checking anything differently?
Right, Thank you.
I have forwarded this issue now however for anyone experiencing this issue I would suggest if it is possible to try switching to Wayland as that doesn’t have this issue and has been working fine with WT for me for a while now.
worse case scenario, is there anything stopping this old launcher trick from working in the future? or is this way of bootstrapping the launcher a way to keep it alive forever even if never fixed?
They can just revert they update and it will all be fixed.
Any work arounds?
Switching to Wayland is somewhat far into the future on a Debian Stable platform like MX Linux (especially for xfce) but may have the opportunity to pick up Wayland in the new release, but only for KDE. Right now the workaround of copying launcher and launcherr.dat over and then executing /linux64/aces works fine. Sooner or later fixing the launcher code to accept .x11 as well as Wayland will be available. Thanks to all for your help.
I can’t guarantee anything however I see no reason using a older launcher version as a workaround should stop working any time soon.
The only known workarounds I know of so far are either rolling back to the previous launcher version as mentioned in @bonobo’s previous post here:
If you are playing through Steam there is a option to have Steam start War Thunder directly bypassing the launcher or if possible on your Distro switch to Wayland.
Yes some Desktop Environments currently do not have Wayland support so for those it would not be possible. I mainly just mentioned that for those that are on KDE, Gnome, etc and that could possibly switch to Wayland. :)
how to switch to wayland
Your on Ubuntu 24.04 right? You should be able to switch on the log in screen. Select your username, Then a little gear button should appear in the bottom right, Click on that and the option you want should be called “Ubuntu” as you should also have a option called “Ubuntu on Xorg”.
You can see what your currently running by running this command and looking at the output:
echo $XDG_SESSION_TYPE
Under wayland (on Mint 21.3 cinnamon) I can’t use the alt key combo. so I need to use X11
actually thinking back, I think maybe shift combos also didn’t work.
Hello,
Have you tried upgrading to Linux Mint 22.2 to see if that has been fixed? Thats not an issue I have seen reported before.
I’d rather WT just fixed their shit.
Maybe that was a bit blunt. let me spell it out:
I’m on a rather limited connection, it took me just under a week to get the last update. (on and off, DL at night etc. as it disrupts everything else I want to use the internet for)
and Now you’re telling me I should update my OS, which is not only risky for me and everything else I may use my computer for, it’s also time consuming, AND the time to download it.
22.2 has not been out all that long.
WT support has been extremely poor for linux users overall, so yeah, I’m kind of pissy.
