I noticed that bombs like the Paveway IV or GBU-54, when you throw them under a laser and then turn off the laser, the bomb doesn’t fly to the place where the laser was last shining. Is that how it should be or is there a bug?
That’s how it should be in real life but in the eyes of developers this is considered man-in-the-loop mechanism and so it is not accepted/considered for gameplay at the moment.
After release the bomb is in GNSS, then it can see the laser so GNSS is turned off. If laser is gone, it will turn to IOG but not GNSS since the point where the laser disappeared is not the point of GNSS settings, and IOG is not 100% accurate. This should be the ingame logic
It should be for bombs as they have 0 drift IOG
If you drop from further away from the target than (approx) 4.5km, then it will use GNSS regardless of whether you drop with or without the laser. Once the bomb has entered within laser spot range. It will disable the GNSS and guide via the laser. If the laser is then disabled, it will guide to the last laser spot target using IOG.
From my own personal experience, the bomb needs a second or 2 to fully guide onto the laser spot and if the laser spot is too brief, then it doesnt update fully and the IOG wont guide it onto the target correctly.
It should have data-link allowing the target to updated at any time during the free-fall, but this has been denied so far.
From my test drive memories on Ljdams they drift a lot sideways after successfully turning to the laser spot… Maybe IOG is never activated if it says 100% IOG, not 100% GNSS in the codes
Hmm… Never had that issue with PW4s.
Might be worth bug reporting the LJDAMs specifically
Will do some more testing tmr. Ljdams are usually weird… they also fly over the target a lot (at least 3 ccip rings) with some laser settings (activated too early so bomb cannot see when disconnecting gnss? i changed to manual laser for this potential)., Gaijin Codes…
Which aircraft are you using?
Just tested the GBU-54B LJDAMs on the Typhoon FGR4. Dropped the bomb onto target (A) using GNSS , when the bomb was about 3km away from the target I armed the laser pointing at target (B) and then disabled the laser again after about 1-2 seconds. The bomb scored a direct hit on target (B)
On Live I have no Issues with them, but on the Dev they dont work at all anymore

Same results with German Tornado. Before laser range, laser didn’t matter. Bomb saw the laser at around 2.x km and re-aimed, no time to spread actually.
And about over flying, this is a problem I found in battle about 2-3 months ago. Spawned, aimed ccip, dropped and overflew without any diving, but now I can’t redo that, should be fixed
