Hello everyone and welcome to this new suggestion.
Today I’m presenting a brand new ship for the French tree, a truly unique and surprising vessel: the patrol boat L’Adroit (P725).
Launched in 2011 at the shipyard of DCNS in Lorient, the ship was originally built as a demonstrator for the Gowind-class OPV. Unlike most warships, L’Adroit was financed directly by the shipbuilder rather than ordered by the French state. The goal was to showcase a new generation of offshore patrol vessels to potential international clients while simultaneously allowing the French Navy to test the concept in real operational conditions.
Following sea trials, the ship entered operational service with the French Navy in 2012 and was based in Toulon. Although not officially owned by the Navy, it was fully integrated into naval operations. The vessel was designed for long-duration maritime security missions and featured several modern capabilities for a patrol ship of its size. Among them were a helicopter landing deck, facilities for unmanned aerial vehicles, and two fast interceptor boats launched from stern ramps, allowing rapid intervention at sea.
Thanks to these capabilities, L’Adroit was used for a wide variety of missions including maritime surveillance, the fight against trafficking, fisheries protection, and the security of sea lanes. The ship also served as a platform to test new operational concepts and technologies intended for future naval patrol vessels.
In 2013 the ship carried out a major long-distance deployment that demonstrated its endurance and versatility. During this mission the vessel operated in several strategic regions, including the Indian Ocean and waters off the Horn of Africa. There, the crew conducted surveillance operations, worked alongside allied navies, and tested onboard drone systems designed to extend the ship’s observation range.
During her service, L’Adroit also took part in the European anti-piracy mission Operation Atalanta. In this role the ship helped monitor maritime traffic and protect vulnerable commercial vessels navigating through areas where piracy had previously been a major threat.
The patrol vessel was also involved in humanitarian and crisis-response missions. In 2015, during the conflict in Yemen, the ship contributed to evacuation and protection operations for civilians and commercial ships in the region, highlighting the flexibility of this type of vessel in complex situations.
The initial agreement between the Navy and the shipbuilder was supposed to last only a few years, but the success of the experiment led to several extensions. Over time, L’Adroit became an important operational asset while continuing to serve as a showcase for French naval industry.
After several years of service and numerous deployments, the ship left French service in 2018. It was subsequently sold to Argentina, where it continued its career under a new flag, marking the end of its role as a demonstrator for the French Navy.
Characteristics
Length : 87.00 m
Width : 11.70 m
Draft : 3.20 m
Mass : 1500 tons
The vessel is powered by two 2800kW ABC 12VDZC diesel engines, allowing it to reach a speed of 21 knots. Its range is 8000 nautical miles at a speed of 12 knots. The vessel also features numerous stabilization systems that enable it to remain stable even in rough seas.
The crew consists of 32 sailors.
Equipment
This ship is particularly modern and is therefore equipped with a large number of detection and defense systems. These include:
Radar:
- Terma Scanter 4100 air and sea surveillance radar
- Terma Scanter 6000 air and sea surveillance radar
- 2 navigation radars
Camera:
- Talon FLIR (18x IR zoom, 25x EO zoom)
- SAGEM EOMS NG (IRST)
ECM and Decoys:
- Thales Vigile RWR
- 2 Lacroix Sylena decoy launchers
The ship can also operate various drones and aircraft. These include:
Helicopter:
Drone:
- Schibel CAMCOPTER S-100
Spoiler
The Schibel CAMCOPTER S-100 is a reconnaissance helicopter drone used by the French armed forces and many other countries. It is a small aircraft weighing a maximum of 200 kg and capable of performing a variety of missions.
Initially designed exclusively for reconnaissance missions using its electro-optical and infrared sensors, the drone has recently been unveiled with new capabilities, including the ability to carry sonobuoys for the early detection of submarines, small radar and some light weapons.
Weapons
This ship being primarily a surveillance and patrol vessel, it has no real combat purpose, however, it has light armament enabling it to defend itself and engage various threats.
- 1 x 20mm Oto Melara or Nexter Narwhal (front remote control turret)
- 2 x 12.7mm M2HB machine gun (each side of the bridge)
- 2 x 7.62mm machine gun (each side of the bridge), can be replaced by spotlight
In addition, the ship has two water cannons with a capacity of 250 cubic meters per hour.
In the game, this ship is obviously not intended to be added today; however, in the event of the addition of more modern ships with access to helicopters and drones, this ship would be a particularly interesting addition for the French forces, providing a ship with the full range of modern technology that can be expected from a ship of this era while being relatively lightly armed.
