KV-220 needs a better round, it seems to me that the KV-220 is struggling against 6-7 line ups and needs an improvement in fire power. The tank has great armor but lacks fire power, even though the round has good spalling it needs more punch . There are too many vehicles with way better frontal armor which makes it hard for the KV-220 to penetrate.
The T-44 at 6.7 also uses the same ammo, record says it perform quite well thanks to the armor profile and speed.
Hold on the T-44 uses a round that can penetrate more than 155mm of armor (if I am not mistaken) in comparison to the 135mm of penetration of the kv-220. The T-44 is significantly more mobile and is able to maneuver. The KV-220 only beats the T-44 in armor, dont think comparing the T-44 and KV-220 is a fair comparison.
T-44 uses the BR-365K round which is better than the BR-365A round.
Just to add to the rounds being used the T-44 also has access to the BR-367 round.
Yes it’s not a fair comparison, that is why the T-44 is 6.7 and the KV-220 is 6.0. comparing 2 tanks that are multiple BR steps apart shouldn’t be a fair comparison.
Regarding the original post. The KV-220 getting a new round would be fine when it’s accompanied by a BR increase to 6.3. It’s already more than fine as it is for 6.0.
Sure I think that would be a fair trade since it has really good armor and now adding a better round with better penetration capabilities warrants a br increase to 6.3.
Im not sure what the proper solution is, but the 220 does struggle a bit now. I feel like seeing 6.7 is guaranteed, and 7.0 is not rare. I would not want it moved down since 4.7 would be clobbered, but a better shell or reload might be good. Even if it moves up, since it sees 6.7 the vast majority of the time anyways. What are its historical options?
It has a very good reload, I would say add a better shell like the BR-367 and let it face the 6.3 to 6.7 line ups, it should be able to go through the machinegun opening of the jagtiger and the 2h if I am not mistaken. But for sure K-220 should not be facing 4.7s.
