- Description :
- The Kurganets-25, also known as Object 695 or BMP B-11, is an Infantry Fighting Vehicle designed to replace the BMP series IFV’s currently in Russian service. The Kurganets-25 was first seen in the 2015 Moscow Victory Parade along with a plethora of other newly designed vehicles. The Kurganets-25 was designed by the Kurgan Machine Building and JSC Kurganmashzavod to meet Russian Army requirements for a new, modern Infantry Fighting Vehicle. The design was brand new, differentiating itself from past BMP’s developed during the time of the Soviet Union. This new design focused on crew protection, allowing more room for troops as well as more under-armor to protect against IED threats. The engine is located in the front of the vehicle, similar to other IFV designs but offset to allow more space for equipment. Two variants of this vehicle were designed, the IFV version, armed with the Bumerang-BM unmanned turret housing a 30mm 2A42 Automatic Gun, a PKTM Coaxial Machine Gun, and 2x Dual 9M133 Kornet ATGM Launchers, as well as an APC variant, armed with a 12.7 Remote Turret. On the Bumerang-BM turret used by the Kurganets-25, the Afghanit APS system is mounted featuring multiple AESA RADARS which are used to detect incoming projectiles to either deploy multi-spectral smoke to confuse missiles (part of the soft-kill hardware) or hard-kill rockets to intercept approaching rounds. The vehicle can use a modified version of the Afghanit which all equipment is located on the turret only. In 2017 it was meant to go into serial production, however, delays in the certification for the vehicle prevented trials until autumn of 2022.
