History

The ZSSW-30 turret dates back to 2014 when it’s mockup was revealed during MSPO 2014,
it was to be the armament of KTO Rosomak and future amphibious IFVs developed under the Borsuk program.

In May 2015, during a closed show at the training ground in Stalowa Wola, a shooting test of the prototype, installed on a test Rosomak, was officially carried out. According to unofficial assessments of soldiers previously firing from a manned, standard Rosomak turret - the new one achieved much better grouping.

Early prototype fire test results

ZSSW-30 qualification testing began in January 2020 and was divided into several stages. Two of the three ZSSW-30 prototypes were assigned to this task (the third was used on the prototype of the New Amphibious Infantry Fighting Vehicle “Borsuk”). The turrets designated for qualification testing were mounted on the chassis of Rosomak, their first operational user.

In the second half of November 2020, the integration and capabilities of a dedicated anti-tank system were tested at the Nowa Dęba training ground. The ZSSW-30 utilizes a dual Spike-LR (Spike-LR2) ATGM launcher for this purpose. However, the test using the anti-tank missiles required the presence of manufacturer representatives, which, due to the pandemic and the isolationist policies of the State of Israel at the time, led to turbulence and delays. Ultimately, however, Rafael representatives arrived in Poland and trained specialists from Huta Stalowa Wola and WB Electronics in the operation of the Spike ATGM launcher using the Indoor Trainer stationary simulator. Following the training, five missions were conducted using live Spike missiles.

The test results were not disclosed, but were generally described as “very satisfactory.” After the firing stage, tests were planned in specialized chambers to verify the correct operation of the ZSSW-30 in extreme temperatures, and the electromagnetic compatibility of various subsystems and devices operating simultaneously.

According to the contractor, no conclusions requiring design adjustments were drawn after qualification tests conducted in the fall of 2020. This situation was intended to allow for negotiations with the Armament Inspectorate to begin in early 2021.

First ZSSW-30 turrets for KTO Rosomak were delivered in December 2023 to the Rzeszów 1st Podhale Rifle Battalion of the 21st Podhale Rifle Brigade. The delivery is the first part of the order for 70 ZSSW, which was placed on July 5, 2022.

+1 would be nice to have with the rest of the Polish armoured vehicles.

+1 for Poland

Very nice to see it has 6 Spikes, makes them slightly less useless than on most vehicles lol
