I don’t know much about modern Radars
But
the AN/APS 6 on the F6F-5N can according to the (declassified) manual reliably detect Islands at 65, Ships from 35 and planes from 5 Nautical Miles as well as having a gun aim mode
now in game it detects only planes from 5 regular miles away and has the wrong radar lock mode that later Jets had without the Gun aim function
due to being implemented like 50s Radars it also gives the pilot a lot less information as the more raw display of the 1944 radar
Do you know how AESA works? Because it sounds like you’re very knowledgeable about it. In addition, it’s going to show up at some point you know. Makes the most sense to test it on one airframe than on several at once. Taking that first step isn’t junk code nor waste of money but a necessary step.
I’m not saying it’s coming this year, just that it is a possibility. All we know about the F-2 was that it was coming in the next “few” major updates, which depends on your interpretation.

Regardless, this radar talk is more applicable for the XF-2 because it used prototype radar and as such gives more leeway for Gaijin to test things however they want to. It gives them more creative freedom to introduce such a mechanic in a balanced way. That assumes they don’t go with the other potential route of using the APG-68 (F-16C radar that’s already in the game). Such radar was considered but from my understanding it is unclear if it was fitted and tested or if they went straight to the prototype J/APG-1 AESA radar as it might have been ready in time (but that doesn’t mean it can’t use the APG-68). This means Gaijin has free reign to use the APG-68 that solves that conundrum.

I know enough about AESA to understand the chaff resistance, signal strength, & differences between standard PD radars. I still don’t fully understand its search technique nor how easy it is to notch.
I don’t have much info on it, aside from promotional material and my understanding of the physics involved but that’s not saying much lol.
I had reaserched f-16, had 17000 left on it and when i was done today I couldnt buy it.
