The Marder only gets 4 missiles, after that the vehicle is basically useless against heavily armoured tanks. The Marder is a support vehicle, and that is what this IFV is good at. it shouldn’t have to fight tanks more advanced as it would completely render is useless.
Careful what you wish for - IS-4 and IS-6, T29-T34 are all WW2 vehicles
I would not say it is a powerful vehicle.
Historical mode needed out of realistic
I kind of want a historical mode just to see how lop sided the mm becomes and laugh at the threads made about it.
Those of us who want a historical mode and are reasonably knowledgeable about gaming are perfectly aware that you cant’ do it properly with the current MM system.
You need some sort of “economy” where equipment costs are determined by overall effectiveness, rarity and other “real world” factors - a lot of wargames use points systems - eg A Tiger 2 might cost 500 points, a Sherman 75 100pts, and you play a game where you can only field a maximum of (say) 1000 pts.
True.
That would be better. As long as i dont see a bunch of threads of people complaining about 2 death leavers because most people just spawn 2 tigers and never use the weaker stuff.
The issue is that war thunder is just not the game for it. Its not compatible with the playerbase.
Absolutely - it would be a completely different game - likely never as popular as WT, but one that could leverage of all the work that is in WT - models, etc, like Enlisted.
the thing about tigers occured in table-top gaming too - many years ago (40 or more!!) a player came to the local National WW2 comp with an “army” that consisted of 7 (I think) Tiger 1’s (using Airfix plastic kits - that was pretty much the supreme being at the time!) and about 2 platoons of infantry - Wheraboo’s have been around a long time… he didn’t do well vs more balanced armies of “lesser” equipment that could always find somewhere his tiger’s were not covering!
I would like to see spin off based on war thunder’s stuff. Would be neat to check out.
Yeah…
I would love to have era-based Matchmaking: First WW, Interwar, September 39 to Mai 41, June 41 to June 43, Juli 43 to Mai 45 :-) And there should be strict limitations of vehicles acording their historical availabilty. Also should team combinations be based on history.
the problem I have with era-based matchmaking is it could be hard to balance different vehicles (like the tiger 2 going against Shermans and T34s). If that problem could be fixed, then I would consider an era-based matchmaking system.
I do agree with that because it would prevent people spamming tiger 1s and 2s and other overpowered vehicles for that era.
If you separate the tanks striktly to their deployment. There would be no problem ( for WW2) as any nation would have counterparts that can handle the different types.
Could you give 2-3 examples for late war tanks for minor nations?
That’s not true if you are sticking to historical deployments - the allies have nothing to effectively counter Tiger in Africa or USSR in 1942, or the Jagdtiger at any point…
the way you get around it is with an “economy” - you get a certain amount of resource per game - let’s call it “points”, and then you have to pay for what you use - so perhaps you get 1000 points per game, and a Tiger in 1942 costs 500 points, a T-34/76 costs 100, a Jagdtiger in 1944-45 costs 800 points… now you can start using numbers to counter the better equipment.
Get ready for Renault R.35 SA38’s facing T-54’s then…
Which time period would that be?
And if here is one then the Renaults are 10 points and the T-54’s are 300 :)
It would be possible to do it but it would require a lot of changes, it would require bigger and better made maps, a completely revised damage and penetration model to make it minimally realistic, and after that reslicing many tanks that have a Br based on these damage and penetration failures. Once this is done what would have to be done is to make the Br so that it would mainly match up with vehicles of similar performance, for example the Tiger 1 vs KV-85, the Tiger 2 vs Is-2 (1944) and etc, using a historical Br within the possibilities of the vehicle.
I believe it was a Lebanese Israeli conflict, that’s probably wrong though.
IS-4 began production in 1946, and the IS-6 later than that. One T29 was completed after WW2 ended, so not entirely sure if that counts, and the T30s were around the same time- Began development in WW2, completed either shortly after or shortly before. Pretty sure the T34 never made it past development
