JAS-39E for Sweden

Yes, I believe it uses Elbit systems Targo 2 helmet https://www.elbitsystems-uk.com/what-we-do/air-space/aircraft-systems/helmet-mounted-displays/jhmcs-ii.pdf

https://www.elbitsystems.com/air-space/aircraft-systems/helmet-mounted-display/jhmcs-ii They use JHMCS 2,

It’s got a customisable HMD, and I don’t believe we’ve had a look at the one Gripen E uses, outside of SAAB’s YouTube video https://youtu.be/pcVp4bM9ruA?si=ME5-vOMKqO03lZDH&t=410 (timestamp included)

This might just be mostly post production, but it does showcase the capability of identifying friendlies

Oh, you’re not getting what im saying, my wording may have been done poorly. My thought was that the Gripen E when added would just be a Gripen C like how the Gripen C’s are glorified Gripen A’s as they lack the cebterline bomb pylon and use the Gripen A radar rather than the MS20 radar for the Gripen C.

It was a joke poking fun at the fact that gaijin would make the E a glorifed C model.

I wouldn’t expect a significant upgrade in flight performance, TWR is pretty similar.

Yea, low k surprised it didn’t stay a similar weight to gripen c. Maybe they decided to not use that much composites or something

New engine, new radar, much larger wingbeams for EW, 30% more fuel capacity, IRST, more pylons, larger wing, more avionics and sensors, 1 tonne increase makes sense but since it’s a light aircraft it’s a higher % of he total weight compared to a 1 tonne increase to a larger fighter like the flanker

comparable upgrade to the legacy > super hornet(s)

I was thinking it compared to the mig-29, which are both smallish fighters, as the mig-29 went from 2 bvr missiles to 8 bvr missiles and did not gain any weight while incorporating larger wings and more hard points as the new ones use much more composites compared to the old one.

I still think the new engine, much larger fuel tank and those avionics make up the bulk of the difference, it’s basically a completely new jet. I’d compare it more to the Hornet evolution. FMV is also known to release very generalised information

People straight up frothing at the mouth in anticipation in this thread xD

I’m not sure what people are expecting lol, It’ll be outshined in basically every conceivable way to the new Eurofighters and it’ll have the most boring missile set in top tier. I think the cockpit of the 39E and the human-machine-interface is really cool so I hope that’s represented in-game. They did a good job on the 39A/C MFD’s. The 39E can’t really play to it’s IRL strengths too much in this game which takes away from some of the excitement for me

That’s true. I wonder how much weight gaijin is gonna model it with. I got some secondary sources that gripen ng was 8000 kg, but I’ve seen some sources that out it at 8100 kg

The “NG” was just a technology demonstrator, a marketing term for the “E”, I’m not sure why people even think it should be in the game, it’s like adding an F16 in some weird part of the middle of it’s development years before it’s introduction, SAAB states 8 ton, so that’s what I expect. 100kg difference is negligible so I don’t care really, maybe it’s the weight of the pilot or something

The A leaves much to be desired lol

Again Gripen E is in a weird Limbo, its here too late and power crept since without Arexis its main strength is made worthless. Then its also here too early because we dont have EW yet in game. Honestly the Gripen E prototypes like 6002 wouldve been a better choice since iirc 6002 was shown with multiple stages of the production gripens upgrades, so we could’ve gotten a slightly more lightweight gripen without Arexis. Im still curious what wing deisgns gaijin will go with for the Gripen

Which MiG-29 are you talking about?

Mig 29 m (2005) vs mig29 of the 1980s

people said that to the C model when it came and still dominates even in 14.3, Gripen E will dominates, Lowest wing load on a 4.5 gen aircraft, also one of the best lift/drag ratio, with 1+ TWR 100degree AESA radar 9 missiles, same as typhoon, also spherical MAW RWR/LWS very similar to rafale but more advanced with passive ranging from threat, AKA will become one of the best BVR fighter, and the best rate fighter in the game

C came to the game broken as hell because gaijin rushed the update.

Both Eurofighter and Rafale generally have lower wing loadings I believe? At least in clean configuration Depends what weights we’re looking at too

You could argue drag could be the best, but Gripen still loses to both Rafale and Eurofighter in dogfights, Gripen also has by far the worst TWR of the three, probably out of any 14.7?

Typhoon gets 10 missiles, Gripen will have 1 less Fox 3 than both EF and Rafale

We’ll see if Gaijin models that, I think best case they give it the same MAWS system as Eurofighter

It will be neither of those things, not even close to the energy of the other eurocanards for BVR, and it’s already beat in dogfights by both. It’s got a nice Radar advantage now to Rafale, but it’s the Rafale… Much better Fox 3’s, one more than the Gripen and significantly better flight performance

All this said, It’ll still be great jet, but I don’t think it’ll be the star of the update or the best in anything really, maybe the amount of BOL countermeasures, but you don’t need that many anyways

Yeah i have no idea where he got his info i love the Gripen but it is by no means “good” for warthunder in the meta, it will be alright to mid. The fact it seems to be a last minute addition only really adds to the point that gaijin doesnt think the Gripen is that special either nor do the current datamines about its radar put a good image for everyone given its copy and paste of the EFT.
