Oh damn yeah, interesting. A list of all Gripens that is out there and shows what happened to them shows all 39A series numbers as “kasserad” if they weren’t used for parts for C/D, became a test bed or had a total faliure prior to 39A being taken out of service.
Yeah that is why I am slightly confused
Yeah, some still left in museums, one even painted in M90 camouflage colors:
( Lista över Saab 39 Gripen – Wikipedia )
Would be a cool skin for in-game.
Very old images.
This is getting off topic now though :P
you can argue for backwards compatibility
when was this pic taken ? i didnt know they used meteors in the 90s ?
This is a test aircraft in 1996 by the looks of it, Meteor wasn’t taken in to service until 2015/2016 with the 39C MS20 package.
Not for the E since that is a completely new airplane, there are almost no parts that are still the same compared to C or older. That’s also partially why they didn’t scrap the C versions to built the E, it would hav cost more in labor to break them down just for those few parts compared to what new parts would cost.
yes. but why loose out on some compatibility? asking because im genuently currious
Meteor started development in 94 i think, though i don’t think they were put into service until way later.
In general likely taking up to much space in connectors and software that could be way more effectively used for other things that are actually in service.
We were first to take it in to service in Sweden.
@Michael-IR Ayo! Spice 1000 “fixed” ( Community Bug Reporting System )
Edit:
Label “fixed” and comment “implemented” but at least for me not available on the DEV server as of now.
gaijin deving on a sunday is not a good sign. but it means we can push for more bugs to be repported and get fixed
Do folks here think I-Derby ER might be possible? There’s an open report here (Community Bug Reporting System) and despite what the comment says I think the second source looks good even if it doesn’t specify the Gripen model. This source that was used for the SPICE 1000 report (Saab Offers India A Choice of Missiles) also says Derby “can be integrated” (on a side note, that source also says Python 4/5 has been tested on Gripen E; any reports for that?).
Edit: oh hang on a sec, just remembered that the I-Derby ER is dual pulse, so even if it’s compatible it won’t be coming this update. Welp.
Honestly, during dev-server and just before a major update most game studios have “crunch times” and DEVs work way to many hours per day for to many days. I don’t know if Gaijin follows the same pattern but it’s a relatively known issue within the gaming industry in general.
i think its wierd that they did not offer with the mica since india already have that in stock aswell. but yes if its used for the spice i dont see why not
Is the engine burning chaff really a problem? If so, I would have expected this setup on the F-104 to be rather problematic

either the date in the pic is wrong or its some meteor mock up ? but that definitely looks like a meteor.
Isn’t that angled outward and fire away from the engine though?
BOL is electrically dispensed and aimed straight backwards.
Edit:
sidenote: chaff might also survive better as it’s usually metal strips of some kind, the BOL IR is something the reacts with oxygen to burn. if you then burn it earlier it might effect things. Not sure though.
Prototyping for meteor started in 94 if i remember correctly.
